  2. 2. TAXONOMY: What do you already know about taxonomy? What is it???<br />The science or technique of classification.<br />
  3. 3. So… who is “Bloom?”<br />Benjamin Bloom is “old school…” He led a committee of colleges in 1956. They developed:<br />THREE DOMAINS OF LEARNING:<br />*Cognitive: mental skills (Knowledge)<br />*Affective: growth in feelings or emotional areas (Attitude)<br />*Psychomotor: manual or physical skills (Skills)<br />
  4. 4. As educators… <br />What domain do you think we’ll focus our attention on???<br />COGNITIVE domain… <br />You got it right! <br />
  5. 5. Benjamin’s work helps us…<br />Classify the verbs we use in the cognitive domain to promote higher order thinking skills in children.<br />Just like the animal world has a hierarchy, so do the types of questions we ask children that affect their learning…<br />Pretty cool, huh???<br />
