Sonia Delaunay was a Ukrainian-born French artist active from 1885-1979. She is known for her vibrantly colored, geometrically patterned paintings and textile designs that explored simultaneity and abstract forms. Delaunay helped develop Orphism art and was a pioneer in both abstract art and the use of color in fashion textiles. Her work is included in major museum collections worldwide and she had the distinction of being the first living female artist to have a retrospective at the Louvre.
