  2. 2. ComparativeComparatives are used to show the difference between two objects. To learnto use these we need to learn four basic rules:  -ER THAN  If an adjective has 1 syllable we add the ending –er to the adjective.  If the adjective ends in –e, we only add –r (nice-nicer) Mario is shorter than Luiggi.
  3. 3.  -ER THAN If a one syllable adjective ends with a consonant + a vowel + a consonant you must double the last consonant and then ad –er.Ralph is fatter than Bart.
  4. 4.  -IER THAN If an adjective ends with a “y”, remove the “y” and add –ier. Exception: shy-shyer The girl is happier than the boy.
  5. 5.  MORE THAN If an adjective has two syllables or more without a “y” then add the word “more” before the word.Lions are more dangerous than dogs.
  6. 6. SuperlativeSuperlatives are used to show the difference between more than twoobjects. THE…-EST If an adjective has 1 syllable we add the ending –est to the adjective. If the adjective ends in –e, we only add –st (nice-nicest)Maggie is the shortest in her family.
