In order to weather scandals, it is essential to recognize the importance of reacting quickly and proactively to defamation, whether one is a business owner, a public figure, or just a private citizen. Failure to do so may be detrimental to one’s brand or reputation in the long run. It is generally best to respond by getting truthful facts out as quickly as possible. Contrary as it may seem to conventional wisdom, releasing negative information is a powerful way to re-establish trust with the public. Credibility is easily challenged in the information age, so it is perhaps fruitless to attempt to “spin” one’s way out of a crisis.
