observing the shopsby Mar JiménezA gradient description offeelings.
superbazar. The local doesn’t invite you to come in, but when you go there, is because you know what does you looking for, or maybe not at all... The door is opened. It feels warm, but is just because of the temperature. The sign is big, written in a big plastic blanket with a typeface really ugly, and you can read in Spanish and Chinese the kind of stuff that you can find. The ambient is bright and very chaotic, it feels cold, invites you to make the shopping fast… The floor is made of fake bright tiles of stone, maybe imitating the marble. The shop is noisy, people are talking, some of them making too much noisy and the radio is turned on. The cash is near of the entrance, but is difficult to see it in the first time, everything is so messy…. The entrance have some kind of mechanisms of security, I think is fake. The commercials are always walking around the shop, turning it a little bit uncomfortable, because its looks like you’re are planning to borrow something… they treat to everybody as the same way. The employees are young, but the woman in the cash are older, maybe they are a family because I can see children playing with the employees. They looks like what they sell, with a messy mix of colors without any criterion. The first product what I see is the clothes, mixed with shoes, some costumes and make up. The products are absolutely messy in all the stands and halls... but they are placed depending of their function. The cheaper stuff is in the same level of my eyes, but lots of them cost more or less the same, between 1 and 4 euro. The more expensive things are in the top of the shelf. Is very easy to see the price, all in yellow sticks, but some of them are missing. Next of the cash I can see small items for children, and some sweets. The costumers walks with friends or family, I think I’m the only one who are alone, but the shop is nearly empty.. the costumers are the most, young woman with their children. A little girl is playing alone, touching and discovering everything. I think she is truly enjoying the moment. When the costumers come inside of the shop, they get lost between the chaos of items. Some of the costumers stay for a long time, like me, just for watching… All of us touch everything, maybe it helps to keep everything messy. Some of the costumers are looking for something in special, but another ones are lost, just cheking the stuff.. All of them buy the stuff what they take.
supermarket. The local invites you to come in, in the practical way. The door is closed, but it works with some kind of mechanism wich open it if somebody try to cross it. I’m not pretty sure if I like it. The sign is in big and illuminated green letters, in a very ugly typerface. I don’t like the logo neither. The ambient is cold and doesn’t invites me to stay there for a long time, just for the necessary. The lights are brights and even a little blue, most in the freeze section. The floor is soft and shiny. Is very noisy, the people talk loudy, some children cry, and there is a commercial music turned on. Sometimes I can ear a girl calling somebody or announcing some offer. The cash are in the entrance of the supermarket, and you must to cross them to enter, maybe because of security or just to be more practical. The security is highly visible, I can see a camera, and there is a secure man. The commercials are in the cash, but some of them are walking around the supermarket. They do not use to talk with the people but if you ask them, they help you without any problem. The employees are nearly thirties. They use uniform, and it fix with the place, it makes easy to find them. The first product what Isee are the fruits, all the items are in perfect order. The place is open, but full of halls with lots and lots of products, separately in different sections. They are very good distribuited, to make you find whatever easy. The cheaper products are in the level of my eyes. I find the stuff of primary necesity in the deeper places, maybe to make you walk and see all the stuff and make you buy. The more expensive are in front of my eyes and the prizes are in a big signs in each shelf in yellow and black. The cash is full of impulsive products like candy and chocolate. The costumers go alone, in couples or even families. They cheat about what to buy. Some children are crying. All of them walk in the same directions, the directions of the halls. The people make the shopping and leave the place fast. They are looking for a special stuff, they know what they want. Is a place to stay just the necessary time. The feeling of cold, the music, the sound of the cash and the overexposure of products invites you to make your shop and forgot that place easily. Isn’t confortable.
Delimbo artspace. Is an art shop and gallery. All about graffiti and urban art. You can find there all kind of pieces of art, some clothes, but most of them t‐shirts, sprays, markers, design toys and books. Is a beautiful building, situed in a street with beautiful shops. The door is opened, and the owner is out, smoking a cigarette with his colleage of work. You feel very welcoming there. The sign is hanged from the façade and writer in a any kind of plastic. The name of the shop with a typeface that reminds me the Japanese forms, I like them, maybe designed by the owners. Once you come in you feel good. Is a very clear an opened space, with tall ceilings and bright white rude walls. The floor is made of soft concrete, very industrial look. The lights are bright. The sound is quiet and is music playing, some kind of hip hop. The hair smells nothing, is pleasant. The commercials (owners) dress well, black both, maybe is just a coincidence. The girl has red nails and long bang. There is not security, just fire. The commercials talk between them, but they are in alert because say hello to me and ask if they can help me. When you cross the door, you cross a little hall and then, arrive to a big place, where you can find in the right, some clothes, in the middle the pieces of art and in the right the cash and bottles of sprays and books. The place is clear and the pieces have their own personalities. The colors are truly important in here I feel. The stuff are distributed carefully and in the level of your eyes except of the pieces of art and some random items. The prices are draw in tags except of the pieces of art. The shop is open, with some people watching the stuff. They are just checking, looking for anything, they are enjoying and laughting because some funny thing that they see.
Le Voilá. Handmade shop and workspace. Is a place where you can find complements for you, or for somebody to make a present, a beautiful and vintage look present. All handmade, maked by the owner of the shop. You can learn in her workshops some knitting technics aswell and buy truly vintage clothes. Is a beautiful shop, situed in a street with beautiful shops aswell but not because of that it can comes unnoticed. The door is opened and with two plants hanged from the wall. You feel very welcoming there. The sign is small and is hanged from the façade, you can see the name of the shop with a typeface very cute and classic, with a butterfly as logo. The wall is half white (a little bit creamy) and the down side with moroccan tyles, very typical in Sevilla, with a big fresco painting in the ceiling, painted by Rico Cejudo, an important artist of the XIX century in the city. The floor is made of tiles. The lights are in the specter of yellows. The sound is not too quiet because there is in a thin but transitable street with cars, but is not too much loudy, the music is turned on and Regina Spektor is singing. The hair smells good, maybe is the parfum of the owner, working in her little corner, sewing something. You can pay there if you wanna take something with you. She dress with a very care and good taste, in a vintage style with red nails and lips. There is not any kind of security and she is talking with me, in a very friendly way, so im not feeling intimidated. When you cross the door, you can see a very small place, and the first thing that you can see is a little horse saying to you hello. The place is full of stuff, all maked by the owner, with special care and good sense of aesthetics. The things are distributed in some pieces of vintage furniture, all around of a table where the owner teach crochet and handmade technics to the people. The stuff are distributed with special dedication around the shop, purses, rings, collars.., All the products are in the level of your eyes. The prices are draw in small tags. The shop is small, is a little workspace too, with a selected items to be selled. So there in just me. From my point of view is a place where you can go just to enjoy watching the stuff, if you’re are looking for something beautiful for you or for a present to somebody.
Wabi Sabi. Art, furniture and clothes shop. Wabi sabi is a place dedicated to the beautiful and unique things. You can find there from art, beautiful truly pieces of vintage furniture and clothes, to even books… You can find yourself walking around the street and be surprised with the things that you can see across the big shop windows. The door is opened. Is a cozy and warm place. You feel very welcoming there. The sign is big but not too much, you can see the name of the shop in a kind of flag placed in the front, writed in a beautiful modern typeface. The color white predomined between all the colored pieces, it feels good. The floor is a mix between concrete and hydraulic tiles, and combined in two heights, is really comfy. The lights are are bright but soft in the same time. The sound is quiet, they have a very relaxing piped music and it fix really good. It have a fresh hair. You can pay in the deeper place of the local. Apparently there is not any kind of security, so this not make you feel intimidated. The commercial is very friendly and just wants to make you feel good there, and is the same with everybody. The shopper is a female, in her thirties very good dressed, classy but alternative at the same time, she looks cultured. She say to you hello in the very first time when you come in. The first things that you can see is a beautiful Vespa, I think is just decoration, but never knows. The stuff is distributed around the shop, apparently they have nothing in common (furniture, clothes, pieces of art…) but they make a body fixing togheter. They are distributed randomizing, but with clear places dedicated to special kind of items, like art or clothes. All the products are in the level of your eyes. The prices are not very visible. It haven’t got impulsive items because of maybe the selected selection of stock. Some of them are alone, there is a couple, enjoying the stuff, watching very carefully and independent each one of other. They are exploring what to discover… Nobody seems buying, buy they ask… so, maybe they are thinking to buy something. From my point of view is a place to go for people with money and highly cultured, with knowledge in art, literature, design, fashion… is a place to lost yourself discovering and enjoying every treasury…
