Solar oven project

  1. 1. IES P. Eusebio da Guarda 3º ESO - Technology Course 2016-2017 SOLAR OVEN PROJECT– A Bioclimatic mock-up A cardboard box. Dimensions need to be between 55 x 55 and 65 x 65 cm. Height between 25-30 cm. In any case, you will need enough space to close the oven without the top of the pot touching the ceiling. An isolation space in the bottom (5-6 cm) is very convenient. You will need to cover the inside part of the box with aluminium foil. Maybe the best way is to use white glue mixed with 50% water. Aplying it with a brush on the less shiny side of the aluminium foil. Using a cutter (be careful because it is a dangerous tool) and with a ruler as a guide, cut several cardboard pieces with the dimensions of the bottom of the box. Glue them using white glue (this time without any dilution). There are so many solutions to problems as people working on them. Be creative and look for your own solution, and go on! Maybe the most difficult part is the lid. You will need a piece of card. That is 10 cm. wider than all edges of the box. To fold it, do some lined-up cuts with the box, leaving a flap. This one will be glued to the side and will give some rigidity to the corners of the lid. Possibly opening a "special window" at the top of the box will improve the final result. What size? You will need to investigate. Important: You will need to label your oven with a card glued on the side. Something like that: Is it necessary to say you working in pairs is better, enjoyable and funny? The work will be part of the note of the third evaluation. The point distribution obtained is as follows: ★ 30% - In english, all the documentation you can contribute. Early attemps until the final solution, including photos, internet info… This report will be presented some days after the end of the project, including the results obtained. Be delivered in PDF format is mandatory. ★ 70% - Built project: ✦ 2 points: The record of temperature obtained inside. ✦ 1 point: Creativity. ✦ 2 points: Following the guide lines, using reciclable materials, low cost. ✦ 1 point: Turn in on time. ✦ 1 point: Behavior of the team in the tests. As you can imagine, the Solar Oven Project will be tested in a sunny day.
