Tangram – what is it?
The tangram is a puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes, called tans,
which are put together to form shapes.
Two large triangles
One middle triangle
Two small triangles
One small square
Brief history of tangrams
The invention of the tangram puzzle is unrecorded in history.
The earliest known Chinese book is dated 1813 but the puzzle was very old
One reason for this could be that in China, its country of origin, at the time
it was considered a game for women and children.
The classic rules are as
You must use all seven tans,
they must lay flat,
they must touch,
none may overlap.
The work process
During the process of creating a tangram story titled
„Federica’s epizode” both
groups Polish and Italian started to work on the story
by using simple
materials like paper, glue or scissors.
It helped the students to
visualise the jigsaw puzzle
pieces in order to collect
them into meaningful shapes.
The final step was to transfer a story into power
point presentation. This time the students used PCs
and a power point programme.
