  3. 3. CHAPTER 1 1.1 INTRODUCTION Art is something that is very subjective. Not everyone has this natural talent. art is for everyone. What we see, touch, taste and others are seni.Oleh reason, what importance of art education in society now. People have to realize, what we do every day all in a relationship. We can not superficially trivial in art for art's education can also help the economy. According from Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said today Malaysia concept development for the future lies in the diversity of culture and art of the country (2009). Rais said through art and culture, it is more practical 1Malaysia received by the young, middle age, and the further from the school level and without consolidation in the culture, the country will not succeed fully achieve its national goals. Then, the arts is not everyone can accept it as a professional in a career field today. They consider this field is just something that can not go away or working. It's just a waste of time. In this day and age, parents must be open minded about what the art world really is and what the importance of art education in the lives of their own today. as a society, the government should play an important role to create the conditions that stimulate the formation of clusters of high- tech future. This is because the child is not present as in the past who do not know anything about technology. But in contrast to the present time because a lot of exposure have been introduced since childhood. Art is a very interesting field and can be therapeutic in our lives. Art is not as old as art now has a variety of facilities and information.
  4. 4. Recent research on so-called ' learning regions ' represents continued efforts to understand the workings of the innovation process and the conditions that encourage the clustering of high technology activity in certain areas by Wolfe 2002. It is often assumed that fields can involved in similar or complementary activity benefits to being spartially proximate. As Wolfe and Gertler (2003) summarize, the agglomeration of similar economic activity potentially allows each fields within the cluster greater access to suppliers, skilled labour, and a common knowledge base. Knowledge can be diffused through formal and informal interpersonal. This is an important concern for meaningful analysis in contingent on properly assess the extent of the importance of art education with life today. In addition, some institutions also need to cooperate, especially MRSM, because they are concerned with science alone. Now, MRSM first tried setting to add the subject of art in education polisisi to open the eyes and minds of students about this art. Some of what has been learned has to do with the art of conscious or unconscious only. The benefits of beginning with this foundation of understanding about children's artistic and holistic development are diffused throughout the teacher preparation sequence, and manifest themselves in improved curriculum planning by these future teachers. We see more age- appropriate selections in the areas of teaching strategies, conceptual content, and media processes for art production activities Therefore, people today need to be aware and not be met with scorn again the ability of the arts because we can see the various achievements of the area and this helped boost the economy.
  5. 5. 1.2 STATEMENT OF THE RESEARCH PROBLEM In addition, the relevance of the material that can be used in the learning process according to a given level institutions is also important. Then, the mass media also play a role for eye-opening and enlightening people about the wonderful art education using a variety of technology. Various motivations and explanations should be given to the community so that they do not always dim view of the field. Arts education plays an important role towards the child's education through enhancing the proceedings of perception, aesthetics and creativity. In addition, art in education will make the process of teaching and learning in schools more fun than can help you understand yourself and help the intellectual development within the context of problem solving. Helping human development in a balanced and comprehensive in the educational process. 1.3 RESEARCH OBJECTIVES • To identify the cause of acceptance problems among school art education today. • To analyze the ways and means of interest in teaching art education in schools. • To determine the re-examination of the concept of learning that can be used in art education system.
  6. 6. 1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS  What is the identify cause of acceptance problems among school art education today?  What is the ways and means of interest in teaching art education in schools?  How the re-examination of the concepts of learning that can be used in art education system? 1.5 RESEARCH HYPOTHESES 1.6 OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS 1.6.1 Definition Of Art Art is for everyone. What to see around us is art . Art is a subjective and natural . Everyone has an artistic flair varying either in or outside of conscious aware . The talent is necessary in honed since childhood. Parents play a role in the ability to observe each child that God gave . Art is a human activity and product range of activities performed by folk art . In addition, emphasis is also given to the creation of an image or object , including painting, sculpture, printmaking , photography and other visual media . Until the 17th century the art of many refer to any skill or mastery and distinguished from the craft or science . But in the modern use of fine art, aesthetic considerations are paramount and it is distinguished from the skills acquired in general, such as decorative or applied art .
  7. 7. In addition, art can also be categorized in terms of mimesis ( reflection on), expression of emotional communication or other features . The nature of art and related concepts such as creativity and interpretation , is explored in a branch of philosophy known as aesthetics . Fine art refers to the skills that are used to express the artist's creativity , or to engage aesthetics to a finer result . The artwork can be clearly made for this purpose or interpreted on the basis of the image of the object. According to Henry James, “The Middle Years” We work in the dark,we do what we can,we give what we have. Our doubt is our passion and our passion is our task. The rest is the madness of art. Then, from the Leo Tolstoy essay with the title “ What is Art” said about art is not as the metaphysicians say,the manifestation of some mysterious idea of beauty or God, it is not as the aesthetical physiologists say. A game in which man let off his excess of stored-up energy. It is not the production of pleasing objects, and above all. Then, it is not pleasure but it is a means of union among men, joining them together in the same feelings and indispensable for the life and progress toward well-being of individuals and of humanity. 1.6.2 Definition Of Art in Society Today's society must realize that art education was introduced in schools is very important these days. Arts education learning system is not like the past that only use manual, not as it is now more on the use of technology and yet easy to learn and understand.
  8. 8. There are stikingly different notions about the relationship between society and art. In popular discourse it is often stated that „art mirrors‟society but this is a rague idea and not very meaningful. Certainly, all conventions or styles of art do not consistenly resemble or reflect specific aspects of society. For example, realistic paintings have been popular during revolutionary periods as well as during harmonious times. The connection between conventions or styles in art and aspects or process of society are not specified in any concrete way.It is also commonly believed that art influences society by shaping patterns of belief or meaning, although this too is difficult to establish. It is undenieable that in capitalist societies art is used for the purpose of manipulation. To treat art and society as dependent ir independent factors, in the real world the two are inexticably entwined. It may be possible to view change in both art and society more clearly by focussing on the relationships between them. 1.6.3 Definition Of Education The arts are organized expressions of ideas, feelings and experiences in images,in music in language, in gesture and in movement. They provide for sensory, emotional, intellectual and creative enrichment and contribute to the child‟s holistic development. Much of what is finest in society is development through a variety of art forms which contribute cultural ethos and to a sense of well-being.
  9. 9. Art education enables the child to explore alternative ways of communicating with others. It encourages ideas that are personal and inventive and makes a vital contribution to development of a range of intelligences. Then, life enhancing and is invaluable in stimulating creative thinking and in promoting capability and adaptability. It emphasizes the creative process and so ensures that the child‟s work is personal and has quality. Attemps at artistic expression are valued, sel-esteem is enhanced, spontancity and risk taking are encouraged and difference is celebrated. It is this affirming aspect of the creative arts that makes participation such as positive experience. 1.7 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY Having trouble to get full information about the extent to which the subject of art education can attract students. This is because in malaysia subjects were regarded as having contributed nothing and is often considered to be insignificant. In addition, information from the people who want to be interviewed is also important in this study, particularly in strengthening the fact that we've got. Cooperation of the parties want to be interviewed also very welcome in this study worked well. The problem of finding the reference point is also a big problem because not many scientific book on this issue.
  10. 10. 1.8 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY 1. Commercialization of art education as a subject of interest in the system education in schools. 2. Making art education as an important ingredient that can be applied in producing a product that is attractive. 3. Enhancing the understanding and erode society's negative perception for arts education in schools. CHAPTER 2 2 LITERATURE REVIEW According to Mohammad Afiffuddin (2009), he said 'Why Students Not Interested SubjekPendidikan Visual Arts?'. Aspect discussed is the art and society, the definition of visual arts education, the history of art education in Malaysia, the current art education, art education teaching objectives, scope of work related to the arts and other lain. This title is chosen to give a brief explanation about arts education subjects comprising the challenges it faced, the role of both the benefits (how arts education contributes to the emergence of human capital). Thus the narrow perception of our society that trivialize this subject can be changed. Many parents view of mathematics as a subject that could secure the future of their children. For them, art is not an important subject. Because of their art is just painting and anyone interested in art will be artists in the future. What makes them think like that is the name of art education history itself. This is because during the era of their schooling, the subject of art education known as the subject of 'Painting'. So, that's what makes them think arts education is only taught how to paint while arts education nowadays is a vast field.
  11. 11. In addition, government policy factor was the factor students interested in the subject of art education in schools. The government's actions are too focused science, mathematics and English has resulted in students but also teachers and parents consider the subject can ensure the future of the country. Hence they do not consider art as an important subject. It is carried away into the process of learning in which students showed no interest in the subject of hostile and critical art education art even willing to skip class. In an increasingly advanced and adventurous, we need to constantly adapt to the current situation. The same goes for art education subjects. Art education curriculum now changed and adapted to the needs of progress and modernity in line with the current field of employment. Its purpose is to provide input (knowledge) to date and beneficial to the students which could expose them to art requirements in the field of employment. Through the knowledge given, it is hoped that students may apply in the realm of pekerjaan.Seni very important role nowadays. There are many areas that require work of art in its implementation. Among the fields of architecture, industrial, animation, advertising, films, computer graphics, and more. Because of the government through the Ministry of Education syllabus adjust kerjamasa field is to provide the students towards the working world. The school also can play a role by having weeks or months of art appreciation. Where is the art in a variety of activities held during the month. Among the activities to be carried out is art workshops for all fields of art such as the art of batik, sculpture, painting, sculpture, design and other industries. Arts competitions can also be held to attract students.
  12. 12. Arts education nowadays is a very important subject as other subjects, especially in an increasingly challenging world nowadays. Art is applied in every field of science and field work. As stated by Walter Gropius, ""Art should benefit and work to everyday life and society. Rather than simply indicating the self".The meaning of the function of art is beneficial to humans by combining fine art (traditional) with an applied art for everyday life. Knowledge learned in the arts can help students in their lives is by applying it in their lives. While, after studying the historical development of Visual Art curriculum from pre- independence and post-independence till now it is clear to us that the subject Visual Arts Education has put in place appropriate based on current needs . If first purpose of government is not to create a handful of well-educated young man or just to be a head just now everything has changed . National school curriculum now espoused the noble country for providing world-class education to the present generation and the future. It is hoped that the review of Visual Art curriculum , then there is no discordant voices that questioned the ability of Visual Arts Education subjects and shallow understanding that says the arts do not promise a good career can be eliminated . Importance of Visual Arts Education subjects is absolutely no doubt . It is not just the need to enhance the creativity of the students but also able to contribute to the national
  13. 13. development by producing many professionals such as engineers, architects, doctors , scientists or artists who have high creativity value. Moreover, with the birth of teachers in Visual Art Education with talent and effective , proactive and have personal qualities that will increase the quality of teaching and learning in and outside the classroom. Skills , competence and commitment of teachers to plan , manage, implement , evaluate and improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning are steps towards excellence. Based on the report Winstedt, "The purpose of the Malay schools according to the annual Education Statement of the Straits Settlements in 1885 are; enough for ordinary requirements of Malay children, who grows up to become the driver of cows, farmers and fisherman. The goverment purpose is not to create a handful of youth good education. Subject to the limitations of the Malays could not pass, because it will lead to problems later. In 1916, Winstedt Report finishing primary education system in Malaya. Malay schools and colleges to teach the subject of painting. Weaving placed under the subject of Agriculture. In addition, the report Winstetd (Assistant Director of Education Straits) suggests; painting is important to "training very well observe nature" that found it, and it would create interest and intelligence of students and train them in precision and
  14. 14. CHAPTER 3 2.1 Introduction This chapter will discuss the following; 2.2 Research Methodology This is a quantitative approach. This study employed a survey research.
