  2. 2. About…some facts.<br /><ul><li>Japan, which you probably have heard of is a group of around 4,000 islands (archipelago) four of which are the main inhabited islands, near China, in Asia.
  3. 3. Japan is found in the pacific ocean and has a oceanic climate.
  4. 4. Japan’s capital, is Tokyo.
  5. 5. Honshu the main island, is the seventh biggest island in the world.
  6. 6. Three quarters of the population live on Honshu.
  7. 7. Japan is populated by around 127,380,000 people, 98.5% being Japanese.</li></li></ul><li><ul><li>There are around 1,500 earthquakes in Japan each year!!!

Seismic activity….<br />Japan has around 1,500 earthquakes each year as you already now…here is some interesting information about japan’s seismic activity:<br /><ul><li> According to Japanese legend, earthquakes are caused by a giant catfish on a seabed. When the fish sleeps there are no earthquakes, but when it wakes up it starts to wriggle and shake, thus, causing an earthquake.</li></li></ul><li>An earthquake in Kobe… <br />Kobe is a busy city in southern Honshu, Japan, and just like cities such as <br />San Francisco and Mexico city, it is built on very shaky ground.<br />Kobe is famous for being one of japans biggest port and is a important centre of industry.<br />Unfortunately in 1995, 17th of January a earthquake occurred there.<br />Here is some information about the earthquake:<br /><ul><li>The earth quake happened at around 5:46 am.
  14. 14. It lasted twenty seconds.
  15. 15. It had a magnitude of 7.5, Haiti's being 7.0.
  16. 16. Around four thousand, five hundred people died.
  17. 17. Around fifteen thousand people were injured.
  18. 18. It was japans most deadly earthquake since the Great Kanto quake of 1923.(142,000 deaths)</li></li></ul><li>Volcanoes<br />Japan has many volcanoes some of which are very well known such as mount Fuji. Here are some others:<br /><ul><li> The Kikai.

  20. 20. The Sakurajima.
  21. 21. The Pinatubo. </li></ul>One of the worlds most deadly eruptions was the Kikai which was listed as the 9th, in 4350 BC with a VEI rating of 7. <br />

Religion<br />Most people in Japan are either Shintoists or Buddhists, Although because of influence from china there are a small amount of Taoists and other religions.<br /><ul><li>Shintoists believe in wisdom and philosophy and think that the abstact natural forces, such as mountains, rivers and lightning are in a complex way sacred. Shinto is a monotheistic religion</li></li></ul><li>politics<br /><ul><li>Japan, just like China has an emperor.
  23. 23. However, the Prime Ministeris in charge of the government.
  24. 24. Japan is generally considered a constitutional monarchy.
