  2. 2. <ul><li>Their history is long and complicated. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Their First War <ul><li>When British India became independent areas consisting of seventy-five percent or more Muslims were to become Pakistan and the rest of the territory India. </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>The arrangement didn’t include the Princely States, one of which is Kashmir. </li></ul><ul><li>They could join India, join Pakistan, or remain separate. </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>Kashmir decided to not join either of the two. </li></ul><ul><li>Pakistan sent tribal lashkars to talk to Kashmir abut their decision of autonomy. </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>INDIA SAW PAKISTAN’S ACTION AS A SIGN OF INVASION. </li></ul><ul><li>THEY SENT THEIR TROOPS TO HELP DEFEND KASHMIR. </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>The end result of this is that Pakistan controlled 37% while India controlled 63%. </li></ul>

  9. 9. <ul><li>The second war between India and Pakistan ended in a stalemate. </li></ul><ul><li>This happened in 1965. </li></ul>The Second War
  10. 10. The Third War <ul><li>1971 </li></ul><ul><li>This was triggered by Pakistan trying to pacify the Bengali peasantry by confiscating Hindu land and giving it to the Muslims. </li></ul>
  11. 11. <ul><li>This created 8,000,000 refugees that were a burden on the Indian government. </li></ul>
  12. 12. <ul><li>Gandhi felt the only way to stop the flow of refugees was to support the Bengali. . . FREEDOM FIGHTERS! Especially the Muki Bahini. </li></ul>
  13. 13. <ul><li>Pakistan began to attack suspected Muki Bahini camps located inside India’s territory. </li></ul><ul><li>They later struck 9 - Yes NEIN - Indian airfields along the western boarder. </li></ul>
  14. 14. <ul><li>India declared war on Pakistan and defeated them in two weeks, overrunning East Pakistan and taking 93,000 POWS. </li></ul>
  15. 15. <ul><li>1999 another war, commonly known as the Kargil War, occurred. </li></ul><ul><li>The conflict was mostly limited. </li></ul>
  16. 16. <ul><li>India won the war </li></ul>
  17. 17. <ul><li>If another war were to occur. . . </li></ul>
  18. 18. <ul><li>… India would win that too. </li></ul>
