Mandy Vavrinak - What I Do

Published on

I get asked on a fairly regular basis about what I do, exactly, for cities as an economic development consultant. This brief deck outlines the type of work I do for Glenpool, Oklahoma in both Public Relations and Economic Development.

Mandy Vavrinak - What I Do

 1. 1. Economic Development Marketing, Demographics, Image/Branding and Public Relations
2. 2. Economic Development
Economic Development Marketing / Demographics
Research and prepare reports, graphics, one sheets and other needed materials to promote Glenpool as an ideal location for new retail, commercial and industrial businesses.
Serve as “on-call” demographic resource for developers, retailers, city staff.
3. 3. Annual Activities
Twice yearly updates of demographic/econ development information and materials.
Latest for May’s global retail ICSC show
Update to latest for November regional ICSC show
Personally attend OK/Ark, TX and Global ICSC shows to promote Glenpool.
Follow-up and pursue opportunities from each show and as needed.
In depth reports and packages as needed for OK Dept of Commerce opportunities.
4. 4. On Call Demographics
Numerous calls, emails and meetings to assess needs and then provide tailored demographics to businesses, investors, retailers/developers or site selectors.
Usually requires modifying the “standard” trade area to fit the particular business and providing customized reports to fit their particular information requests.
Why Choose a Consultant?
From: Raj Akolkar[]
Sent: Thursday, March 25, 2010 11:03 AM
To: Lynn Burrow
Subject: Mandy Vavrinak
Lynn, I spoke with Mandy yesterday and she is providing me with everything our company needs to make decisions. Thanks for putting us in touch with her. I must say...I've worked closely with dozens of town across TX and OK and I've never found a resource as valuable as Mandy. Our company usually puts together internal reports based on demographic research provided by agencies, 3rd parties, and local individuals. This information is somewhat helpful, but often unreliable and unqualified. Having a single point of contact like Mandy that has access to reliable information and can provide up to date business insight & analysis is extremely valuable. It would be great if every city was as prepared as yours. I look forward to making progress in Glenpool, and I hope to meet you soon.
Thanks,--Raj Akolkar
Managing Partner
FLEET PARTNERS LLC
214.403.6281

6. 6. Why Choose a Consultant?
(April 2009) from Roy Brashears memo to Ed Tinker:
“One of the best things that you did for Glenpool’s growth was to put Rickey and Mandy at the sharp end of your spear – they are both well-respected in the national marketplace and know what they’re doing – for many national retailers and developers, who habitually trade information on cities, their presence as consultants to a city automatically gives it a “progressive” pre-approval stamp (you will hear this often at ICSC). They have both been of immeasurable help with our projects and are always selling Glenpool as the Oklahoma city to pay attention to.”
7. 7. Public Relations
Serve as expert resource and consultant to city staff for anything relating to image, marketing and/or public perception of the city.
Plan, promote and present major press events or conferences when needed.
TCC / Glenpool Schools Unveiling
Groundbreaking for Conference Center
Retail Announcements for Glenpool
Hospital Announcement
9. 9. Print Results
10. 10.
 11. 11. Partnering for the Future
I am local and accessible by phone, email or in-person. Typically I am physically in Glenpool at least monthly and sometimes weekly.
I stay in close contact with staff and council so that my efforts further the city’s goals and meet its needs.
