About this presentation <ul><li>In this short presentation, you’ll learn: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>How to access the media center calendar and request to bring your classes in </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>How to look up a book/video/DVD in our catalog </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>How to access our databases </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Advisory period policies </li></ul></ul>
  3. 3. How to… Sign up for the Media Center
  4. 4. Signing Up in 3 steps <ul><li>1. Bookmark the library’s Google calendar: http://tinyurl.com/2o394j </li></ul><ul><li>2. Click “month” view and then on the day you want, to see available times. </li></ul><ul><li>3. Let me know when you want to sign up by email/phone/in person. I will be signing classes up for you and updating the calendar daily. </li></ul>
  5. 5. How to… Look up a book in our online catalog
  6. 6. First.. <ul><li>Click on the white icon that says “Infocentre” </li></ul><ul><li>You’ll then see a screen that looks </li></ul><ul><li>like this: </li></ul>
  7. 7. Then… <ul><li>You can search by title, author, subject, keyword </li></ul><ul><li>Look to see if it is “in” or “out” </li></ul>
  8. 8. If you’re looking for a movie… <ul><li>You might want to try Advanced Search </li></ul><ul><li>Search by title/subject/keyword and then under “copy type” select “video” or “DVD” </li></ul><ul><li>You can search for both VHS and DVD at the same time by holding down the Ctrl key and highlighting both. </li></ul>

  10. 10. 4 Simple Steps <ul><li>Click the Start button at the bottom left corner of your screen. </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Teacher/Student Share” </li></ul><ul><li>Double click on the “Research Links” folder </li></ul><ul><li>Select either Ebsco Host or Facts on File </li></ul>
  11. 11. Advisory policies <ul><li>No more than 2 students at a time </li></ul><ul><li>Students must have a signed library pass-no exceptions! </li></ul>

Please keep in mind… <ul><li>Advisory time is intended for research, printing and book check-out/return only. </li></ul><ul><li>Students will be sent back to advisory when the library is over-crowded. </li></ul><ul><li>Call the media center (x5475) before sending students to do research during the school day in case a class is in. </li></ul>
  13. 13. If you need <ul><li>Just ask! </li></ul><ul><li>I am happy to meet with teachers to discuss resources and/or technology (before/after school, during team meetings, whenever!) </li></ul>
