Postmodern Antiquity in Theatre

The research project is based on the preliminary observations of artistic activities in contemporary Polish theater, which shows that one of the dominant staging procedures aimed at sublimation of trauma of changes in national and individual identity of Poles is re- contextualization of ancient myths used to describe and analyze the elements of historical and current reality, which are painful, poorly researched, suppressed or hidden by totalitarian communism, or difficult to accept in the face of the new challenges of European community.
  3. 3. The scope of research as formulated above will be: 1. To identify the ancient myths of the Mediterranean culture, which are adapted in the twenty-first century Polish theater (years 2001-2012); 2. To hermeneutically attempt to recognize the ideological and aesthetic foundations and directions, according to which the reception procedures, which transform the ancient myths in contemporary cultural contexts, are developed
