HOW DO MSWS WORK WITH COMMUNITY?
The MSWS founded on the Gandhian Goal of “Grama Swaraj” steadily growing itself
as a secular service organization and working in the direction to enable the rural poor
– including women and men belonging to small and marginal farmers and the
landless, tribal people – to move towards sustainable development, through an
overall progress in their knowledge and skills in areas that affect their standard and
quality of life. Working with communities in remote and neglected areas for over
three decades made us learn a few lessons in participatory techniques. One such
lesson is to shift its role from that of a leader to a development worker who
facilitates the community to realize its progress potential.
Human Development Indicators begin with the basic human needs; food and water.
The reports indicate that daily meal still remains the most immediate solicitude for
28% Indians. According to latest figures, “Rural India lives on Rs.3.28 per day”. So
the service base of any organization should encompass water resources
development, Water Management and Sanitation, Quantitative and Qualitative
explosion of education, sustainable Income Generation activity that build sound
economy besides land development, sustainable Income Generation activity that
build sound economy besides land development, sustainable agriculture and livestock
development.
It is with these aims the organization has been working on a long-term basis starting
from inception to impact assessment. To translate our ideas into actions we work
with such funding agencies whose objectives come close to those of ours. The
agencies may not finance on long-term projects, but the organization taps on one
after another that enable organization’s continuance of a priority program.
