WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS FEATURING
THE DIRECT METHOD?
 Teaching concepts and vocabulary through
pantomiming, read life objects, and other
visual materials.
 Teaching grammar by using inductive
approach????????
 Centrality of spoken language (including a
native-like pronunciation).
 Focus on question-answer pattern.
PRINCIPLES OF THE DIRECT METHOD
 1-Classroom instruction are conducted in the target
language.
 2-Start with the everyday vocabulary and sentences
during the initial phase; grammar, reading, and writing
are taught during the intermediate phase.
 3-Oral communication skills are built up through
question-and-answer exchange with the student.
 4-Correct pronunciation and grammar are
emphasized.
 5-Student should be speaking approximately 80% of
the time during class.
PEDAGOGY
 It is another form of the direct method that
breaks down to three (3) key aspects..
 1- Introducing the new words, numbers,
alphabet, etc. (referred to as an ELEMENT).
 2-Syntax, the correct location of an element
in sentence.
 3-Progress, from new element to another
(within the same lesson)..
