BACHELOR OF ARTS
TheBachelorof Arts degreeat TSLAS has two majorcomponents. Thefirst is a Foundations program that runs for
thefirst two semesters (oneyear). TheFoundations program is a general education requirement that focuses on core
competencies and consists of a common curriculum forall subsequent programs of study. It requires you to engage
with a rangeof coreknowledgeareas with a cross-disciplinaryemphasis. TheFoundations orGen. Ed. program is
designed to enhanceyourcapacities in several areas includingformal writing, data handling, and statistical analysis,
and prepareyou with critical thinkingskills as well as communication skills. It also offers creativeand aesthetic
engagement such as in theareas of musicand theatre. On completion of theFoundations program, you arerequired
to choosea Majororthespecialized area of yourinterest forthenext foursemesters (2years). Thelist of Majors on
offeris availableelsewhereon thewebsite. You can also choosetwo Majors which will requirean additional (3+1)
yearof collegework. TheBachelorof Arts degreeat TSLAS is designed to beoneof themost flexibleprograms that
opens thedoorto a widevarietyof jobs as well as prepares you forfurtherstudy. Examples of careers where
employers lookfora Liberal Arts degreeinclude: Human ResourceManagement; News Journalism; PublicRelations;
Non-profit and NGOmanagement;
PublicHealth; economic/sociological data management; Corporateinterface; Healthcareand medical resource
management; and of course, Teaching, alongwith theappropriatecertification. Importantly, theLiberal Arts degree
provides a strongfoundation forgraduatestudies such as Ph.D in thehumanities and social sciences.
