Editor's Notes
Welcome! My name is Madison, and I am the lead marketing manager. I am here to give you insight to today’s social media marketing.
Social media once began years ago when two computer hobbyists, Ward Christensen and Randy Suess, invented the BBS to inform friends of meetings, share announcements, and to share information (Grant).By 1995, Google launches and quickly by 2000, seventy million computers are connected to the internet. Also in 2000, social networking launches and Friendster is born, bringing in 3 million users in 3 months (Grant).By 2009, Facebook reaches more than 400 million users, surpassing Google’s weekly traffic (Grant).
There are many social media sites on the internet today, with more emerging everyday. As you can see on the slide, popular social media sites draws in many people everyday. With this many people getting connected via the internet, this can be very beneficial to businesses when marketing.
Business.com published it’s 2009 Social Media Benchmarking Study. The graph above shows B2B and B2C companies and their ability to see the impact of social media initiatives on Success Metrics. As you can see, web site traffic, business revenue, and brand awareness have increased enough for B2B and B2C to really see the impact social media has on a business. This means more money, more product views, and more product feedback for businesses.
By jumping on the social media band wagon, we as a business can benefit greatly. With so many people being connected everyday in so many ways, social media will allow us to get in touch with our present and future consumers. Social Media marketing can be very cost efficient. Instead of spending a lot of money on print media and advertising, most social media sites are free or at a very low cost to market your business.A perk with social media allows consumers to share their product likes and dislikes, and also allows users to leave feedback. With real-time comments and feedback being shared, businesses are allowed to see their consumer’s feedback immediately and improve in areas where need-be.The graph provided shows business respondents sharing their advantages of social media marketing. 81% of respondents said social media marketing generated more exposure to their business. More exposure = more consumers = more revenue.
In conclusion, I strongly suggest we establish a social media existence. We can start by creating a social networking page such as on Facebook or Twitter to increase the awareness of our brand and business. We can get involved with consumer satisfaction so that our business meets the demands of every day consumers in the best way possible.Doing so will save us money, and in return bring in more revenue. Our traffic and awareness will be increased greatly. I look forward to setting this in motion!
