  18. 18. Working with Worcestershire Leading the way for UK 5G development • Commercial 5G Networks will not go live until at least 2020. However, 4G networks are already starting to evolve in line with emerging 5G concepts and standards. Therefore companies in the WLEP region have the opportunity to be amongst the first in the UK to be early adopters to take advantages of this early evolution. • The Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) has launched £750m scheme to support national development of 5G and Fibre networks and 5GIC is working with a small number of regional partners to bid for the first, £25m, pilot stage of investment and WLEP is one of the leading players. • Example areas of focus are : o Industry 4.0 o Cyber Security o Robotics o Agritech o Our aim is to ensure that Worcestershire take its place as one of the innovative, early adopters of 5G technologies
