JOHN ALLEN MUHAMMAD AND LEE BOYD MALVO The D.C. Snipers
CHILDHOOD John’s mother died when he was five. When his mother died, his dad left him to be raised by a grandma and aunt. Lee Boyd Malvo was born in Jamaica and grew up with his mother. Lee met John when he was about 15.
ADULTHOOD John joined Louisiana Army National Guard in 1979 and was in active duty for seven years. Also married Carol Kaglear in 1979, they had one kid and were later divorced in 1985. Joined The Nation of Islam in 1987 and joined US army. John remarried to a Mildred Green in 1987, they had three kids. In 1999 Mildred filed for divorce and a restraining order from John. He responded by fleeing with their three children to Antigua where he met Lee.
MOTIVES John later claimed he was hoping to shoot and kill his ex-wife Mildred in hopes of regaining custody of his three children. This however did not hold up in court. Lee claimed that John told him the ten million dollar ransom for their acts was going to be used to support 140 black homeless children.
KILLING METHODS John and Lee built a sniper nest in the trunk of John’s car and used it to snipe, at random, people on the street.
VICTIM PROFILE There was no common characteristics of the victims, John and Lee showed no methods of deciding the victim and appeared to shoot at random.
GETTING CAUGHT The police received a tip from a priest that was informed anonymously that he should tip the police about a liquor store robbery/murder in Montgomery. At this crime scene they found a fingerprint of Lee John Malvo, and this lead them to investigate John Allen Muhammad because of their known association. A lookout broadcast spotted them in a rest stop in Maryland.
CHARGED AND SENTENCED John was charged with murder, terrorism, conspiracy, and illegal use of a firearm. He was found guilty of all four charges and sentenced to death Lee was charged with murder and illegal use of a firearm. He was found guilty of both charges and sentenced to life in prison without an opportunity for parole.

May indicate more than one offender, that the offender planned but then was disrupted, or the disorganization of scene was planned. Atypical Crime Scene- Crime scene can’t be classified by available data. Decomposed remains would fall under this category.
