Big Business

  1. 1. Because of the transcontinental railroad, the United States now had more than 160,000 miles of railroad track. Also, because so many people and businesses relied on the railroad companies to travel and move supplies, these companies became one of the nation’s first large corporations. By providing links between cities, farms, factories, and mines across the United States, railroads helped the United States economy grow. Also, “Big Business” encouraged the US government to continue an open immigration policy in order to help their businesses to become even larger.
