Effective Mobile Learning

  1. 1. Effective Mobile Learning. LESSONS FROM THE MLEARN PROJECT
  2. 2. Mobile is Everywhere.
  3. 3. Creating Spaces. The ability of this technology to connect, combined with powerful applications to consume and produce allows the device to create space. This permits a new user- centric model where space is defined by the user and the device, not the physical location or proximity to a campus.
  4. 4. Relevance Mobile allows learning to be situated rather than simulated. The technology is embedded with the student creating a more authentic experience.
  5. 5. Convenience & Flexibility Learning can occur anywhere and anytime. Even to the extent of the exact moment learning is required.
  6. 6. Device Limitations. The physical hardware, operating system and software configuration of mobile devices means that not everything is better with this new technology; some tasks are more easily and quickly done using ‘old’ technology.
  7. 7. Learner Centred The always-available nature empowers learners to take the initiative and direct their own activities.
  8. 8. Social Connectivity Open new channels of communication with peers and experts. Communicate via different media text, video and audio. Enable interaction between peers, teachers, the profession and beyond.
  9. 9. Encourages Reflection The built in voice & video recorder enables effortless and instantaneous recording of thoughts and opinions.
  10. 10. Easy Evidence Collection The portability of mobile devices makes them readily available for collecting a portfolio of evidence for assessment. Not just text but via audio, still image or video camera. This can even be augmented with GPS & environmental information.
