2. THE WITCHES OF ZUGARRAMURDI
This legend is one of the most famous legends of Spain, especially in the Basque
Country.
The legend tells about some witches and sorcerers that lived in Zugarramurdi,
Navarra.
They met together to adore one goddess of the land that existed in different caves
and lands of the zone.
In addition ,they praised to protector spirits that made women powerful.

3. THE CASE
This is the most famous case in the history of Navarran and Spanish witchcraft.
The focus of witchcraft was found in the town of the Navarrese Pyrenees of
Zugarramurdi and the process was carried out in Logroño.
On November 7 and 8, 1610, eighteen women were reconciled because they
confessed their guilt, but the six who resisted were burned alive and five in effigy
because they were already die.

4. FILM
In the year 2013, Álex de la Iglesia directed a film about this legend called “Las
brujas de Zugarramurdi”.
The film won a lot of prices like:the best artistic direction, the best special effects,
etc.
