2. WHO IS SHE
Bethany Meilani Hamilton is a surfer from the United States.She was born in
Lihue, Hawaii on February 8, 1990.
She lost her arm in an unusual accident.
3. WHAT HAPPENED TO HER
On October 31, 2003, Hamilton went morning surfing on a Kauai beach with her
friends.
Around 7:35 a.m., while her friends were sitting on their boards, Bethany was
with her left arm underwater, when a tiger shark attacked her, ripping her left
arm just below her shoulder.Only 10 weeks after the incident, she went back to
surfing.
4. COMPETITIONS
These are some examples of competitions where Bethany has participated:
-In July 2004, Hamilton won the ESPY award for best comeback of an athlete of
the year.
