  • Let’s look at how to sign up for a Google account.NEXT
  • In your browser address bar, type in docs.google.com.On the page that opens, click on the button “Create an account now”NEXT
  • On this page, you will need to answer the questions to create a free account.Be sure and write down your user name and password so that you do not forget it!NEXT
  • You can sign in on the Google “main” page.Click on “More” and drop down to click on “Documents”NEXT
  • Use the username and password that you just created to sign in.NEXT
  • Your page should look something like this.You can create a new document by clicking the “Create New” tab.On the drop-down menu, choose “Document.”NEXT
  • Your new document looks like this.You can begin typing and formatting your text.Take some time to explore the formatting buttons and the menu bar.Click on “File” and see the drop-down menu. Do the same for each work in this menu.Also, bring your arrow cursor over the tope of a formatting button and a yellow box with a brief explanation appears.NEXT
  • Once you have begun your document, you are ready to save it.It is best to save often as you work. Remember that this document is saved at Google’s site so that you can access it from any computer.To name and save the document, in the upper left corner, click on the block that says “Untitled Document.”A dialog box opens that says “Rename Document.”Name and click on “ok.”NEXT
  • Notice that the document has been renamed as “Friends.”To share it with your friends, click on the box on the right that says “Share.”A drop-down menu appears.Choose “Sharing settings.”NEXT
  • Add your friends so that they can share this document with you.Each of them will need to have a Google account before they can edit the document.More about this on the next screen…NEXT
  • There are 3 “share” settings.The 1st – we will not talk about today.The 2nd – “Anyone with the link” – you send the link to any of your friends and they can access it.The 3rd – “Private” – only people that you designate can see it and they must sign into their Google account.NEXT
  • Now let’s explore inserting an image into the document.Place your cursor where you want the picture to appear.Click on Insert in the upper left menu.Then click on “Image’ in the drop-down menu.If you have pictures on your computer that you would like to insert, then…NEXT
  • Choose “Upload” and click on “Browse” and find the picture you want to add.NEXT
  • Double click on the picture that you want to insert into the document.NEXT
  • The picture can be sized by moving the handles at the corners or sides.If you click in the space outside the pictures, those handles go away.To bring them back, “select” the picture by clicking on it once.NEXT
  • Go back to “Insert” on the upper left menu and click on “Images” in the drop down menu.This time select “Google Image Search.”A box opens up and you can type a word or words to describe what you are looking for.Let’s search on “spring flowers.”NEXT
  • The results of this search bring up images that we can select from.Choose a picture and double click on it.It will automatically be inserted into your document.You can size it the same way you did the other one, by moving the handles at the corners or sides.NEXT
  • To print, click on “File” and go to the bottom of the drop-down menu to “Print.”NEXT
