  1. 1. Introduction Hello Mrs. Drury and fellow students. Today I am going to tell you about Dirk Hartog. I hope you don’t get too bored.

  3. 3. Fact one Dirk Hartog was born in 1580.
  4. 4. Fact two Hartog was baptized on the 30th of October 1580.
  5. 5. Fact three Hartog was appointed to trading with Batavia in 1616.
  6. 6. Fact four Hartog in his early years traded with Europeans on a ship called The Dolphin.
  7. 7. Fact five Hartog set foot on land for the first time in a while.
  8. 8. Fact six He found nothing of interest to him this is what he said “not much here no trees, no water, no gold, nothing, still better claim the land for Amsterdam.
  9. 9. Fact seven Here he placed a pewter plate with a message inscribed on it.
  10. 10. Fact eight William de Vlamingh found Hartog’s pewter plate and placed his own and took the original back too Amsterdam.
  11. 11. Final fact Hartog died in 1621 whereabouts unknown.
