University College Cork <ul><li>Was founded in 1845 </li></ul><ul><li>Its motto is ‘ Where Finbarr Taught, Let Munster Learn’ </li></ul><ul><li>There is a superstition associated with the Quadrangle (the main square). </li></ul><ul><li>Students do not cross it before they graduate because they would fail their exams. </li></ul>
  4. 4. What are Ogham stones? <ul><li>380 burial stones </li></ul><ul><li>There are inscriptions on them </li></ul><ul><li>It is the earliest written source of the Irish language </li></ul>
  5. 5. ‘ Leabharlann’ ? <ul><li>This means ‘ library’ in English </li></ul><ul><li>It was named after George Boole – Professor of Mathematics </li></ul>

  7. 7. The Chapel <ul><li>Dedicated to Saint Finbarr </li></ul><ul><li>You can notice a big mosaic floor presenting the zodiac, the river of life and the sun </li></ul><ul><li>On ly the UCC graduates can get married, no matter of their religious beliefs, just bring your own priest </li></ul>

What is this building? <ul><li>It is called the Lewis Glucksman Gallery </li></ul><ul><li>The opening times: 10am-5pm (Tue-Sat), 2pm-5pm (Sun), Monday closed. </li></ul><ul><li>Currently ‘ Travelled Tales’ exhibition. </li></ul><ul><li>Admission is free, but you are advised to donate €5 </li></ul>
