LIFT 2010 – About Music <ul><li>One of the first written references about a musician is in the bible. </li></ul><ul><li>Youbal (in french) is the ‘first’ musician in the world. </li></ul><ul><li>In the prehistoric age – we found traces of instruments </li></ul><ul><li>This is about 25’000 years ago. </li></ul><ul><li>The modern form of music starts around 7’000 years ago. </li></ul><ul><li>The Classical orchestra took a couple of thousands years to create all timbres. </li></ul><ul><li>I need to simplify it – There are excellent books and wikis which talk about the music through the different ages. </li></ul><ul><li>WHAT can be called – MUSIC ! </li></ul>
    3. 3. LIFT 2010 – About MUSIC <ul><li>Music contains 3 main components </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Obviously all of them have a multitude of sub attributes </li></ul></ul>Tone (pitch) Rhythm Timbre

LIFT 2010 – About MUSIC <ul><li>The timbre differentiates the sound of the instrument. </li></ul><ul><li>It is the audible difference between a piano and a guitar. </li></ul><ul><li>It is a complex world when it must be described by a mathematical model </li></ul><ul><li>We (the world, humanity) took more than 5’000 years to create the current timbres in a classical orchestra </li></ul><ul><li>To create a new timbre, and play it with others musicians, it took sometimes 100, 200 years </li></ul><ul><li>And What (!) </li></ul>Timbre
