Professional blog as a supplement to your resume

 1. 1. Professional Blog as a Supplement to your Resume
 2. 2. Introduction

In this uncertain economy, it’s more important than ever to differentiate yourself in your field.

 3. 3. Introduction

Whether you’re looking for a job or you’re an independent professional seeking your next project, a blog is an affordable, effective way to open up new career opportunities and position yourself for success.

 4. 4. What is a blog?

What is a blog?

‘From “Web log.” A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.”‘

 5. 5. What is a blog?

Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order.

 6. 6. Blogs

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries.

A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic.

Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (Art blog), photographs (photoblog), videos (Video blogging), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting).

 7. 7. Blogs

A blog can now have a significant weight in promoting your profile as a professional in your industry.

Professional résumés will always be there as a prerequisite document in your job applications.

However, with the growing trend of online communications, your blog may be a great supplemental document to your résumé profile.

 8. 8. Beyond a Resume

Insight of your Skills – While your resume only states a summary of what your previous work and acquired skills, your blog further explains your experience and will have concrete details of what you have achieved through.

 9. 9. Beyond a Resume

Preview of your Experience – No matter how frequent you publish your posts, your viewers (and future employers) will see how you progress in your working as well as your learning experiences. They will see your growth in both your professional and personal life.

 10. 10. Beyond a Resume

Continuing Profession – Your growth and transition in your profession is often manifested in the posts you write. Potential recruiters will have a good review of how you were doing in transition between jobs, what may be the reasons why you left the previous company, etc.

 11. 11. How to Build a Professional Blog

A professional blog allows you to demonstrate knowledge in your field and establish yourself as an expert.

There are many free blog sites that offer different ways for you to customize your blog, and give you complete control over the content and layout.

 12. 12. How to Build a Professional Blog

The first step is setting up a blog.

You could even set up multiple blogs for different careers if you possess many skills.

 13. 13. Some of the Most Popular Blog Sites-All Free

Type Pad

http:// www.typepad.com

Wordpress

http:// wordpress.com

Blogger

https://www.blogger.com

Live Journal

http://www.livejournal.com

And there are many more. Search “Free Blog Site”
 14. 14. Use Your Blog to Attain Career Success

Define your career objectives and background

Create a solid, persuasive impression of yourself

Share specialized knowledge that only you have

Prove that you’re qualified, able and ready

Develop connections with other professionals

 15. 15. Good Professional Blog

1. Have a clean & unique design 2. Have a targeted about page 3. Write about issues related to your industry 4. Provide valuable resources to your readers 5. Keep it professional

 16. 16. Get your name out there!

Make sure you check the box so your blog appears in search engines.

I would like my blog to appear in search engines like Google and Technorati, and in public listings around WordPress.com

Include the web address on your resume.

E-mail your information to potential employers.

 17. 17. From a discussion

Resumes will be next to useless very soon. Static content is so 2001. We’re fast approaching an era wherein people can shoot narrated documentaries on a cell phone, edit them and add on some special fx, then broadcast to the world. Actually, we’re already in that era, I just haven’t seen an interesting cell phone documentary yet — but I know it’s possible! Sending a prospective employer an MS Word template or unformatted resume strikes me a little like sending out a wedding invitation handwritten on college ruled notebook paper. Sure, you can do it, but there are other options.
