  1. 1. By Mrs. Partovich’s 3rd Grade ClassCreated in Computer Class with Ms. Rothfeld June 2012
  2. 2. Third graders at Hillel Day School learned about the city of Detroit in the classroom, through a field trip, and throughindividual research. Each third grader researched a specific place of significance in Detroit. Students used what they learned to write about the place and to design a PowerPoint slide. This project helped students to develop skills in research, note- taking, summarizing, technology and design. The final product, which you see here, is a presentation to teach others about the importance and historical significance of Detroit, whether you have ever visited or not!The work for this project was done in students’ classrooms and in their weekly computer class with Ms. Rothfeld.

The Fisher brothers (who built the Fisher) didn’t care about how much it cost, and they said that they wanted it to be “the most beautiful building in the world.” Inside the Fisher Building it is decorated with gold, marble, brass, bronze, and more. The tower originally had gold tiles, but during World War Two it was peeled of because people were afraid enemies would bomb it. So they replaced it withMichigan.org green terra cotta. Today, if you go to the Fisher, you can see the green terra cotta at the top of the tower. Emma C.

  22. 22. The Detroit Historical Museum isa fun-filled museum that explainsthe history of Detroit. Do youknow what is amazing? About15,000 Michigan students visitevery year! The reason that15,000 Michigan students visitevery year is that the museum iseducational and fun. One pieceof history at the museum is howDetroit became the automobilecapitol of the world. I know thereason, it’s that all the huge carcompanies came to Detroit withmany materials. It is very fun tosee exhibits, so why not go tovisit a few 19th century stores oran assembly line? The DetroitHistorical Museum is veryinteresting. You really should go! Zoe Z.
