  2. 2. 2010 Trustworthy and True: Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) 2010 Harlem Book Fair Author List Book Title: Power Walking, a Journey to Wholeness Author: Maxine Bigby Cunningham (www.maxinebigbycunningham.com) Synopsis: Using "power walking" as a metaphor for a lifestyle of walking with Christ, the author uses poetry and prose to share her challenges with a mental illness and provides readers four steps to holistic wellness in body, mind and spirit. Scriptures from the Books of Psalms and Philippians precede each chapter. Each chapter also opens with a prayer and concludes with a song of praise. The Prologue and Epilogue (the “book ends”) are extracted from the Book of Isaiah. Woman in the Bible Reference: The Woman with the Issue of Blood Biblical Scripture: Mark 5:25-34 Characteristic Trait/Attribute and/or Logic: The sick woman was losing her essence - that which enabled her to create and to thrive. She had sought healing from several sources becoming poor due to man and expensive efforts to find effective treatment. Stigmatized, even by "church folk", she tried to hide in plain sight as she made her way to Jesus - her last hope. In addition to the healing received by touching the hem of Jesus' garment and after telling the "whole truth," the woman's relationship was forever changed; she became a "daughter.” The author's testimony, as "narrated" in this book, bears the same journey to holistic wellness as the woman with the issue of blood. Book Title: Nightwolf: Book Two - Trouble in Paradise and the Secret Behind the Powers Author: Melody Ravert (www.mjrpublications.com) Synopsis: A young man's determination to make the city a safer place by confronting gangs as a costumed vigilante inspires a Christian young woman of political influence to join him by also wearing a disguise, thereby thrusting the duo into conflicts of political scandals, police corruption, and organized crime. Neither compromises justice on the streets, but what about matters of the heart and soul? Will Rob, a non-believer, ever understand why Lisa continues to refuse his proposals? Woman in the Bible Reference: Deborah Biblical Scripture: Judges 4 and 5 Characteristic Trait/Attribute and/or Logic: She was called by God to do God’s will and to change the lives of those around her. 3. 3. 2010 Trustworthy and True: Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) 2010 Harlem Book Fair Author List Book Title: Transference of Coverings: Understanding the Role of a Man Over a Woman’s Life Author: Annette E. Morton (www.lifethoughtspublishing.com) Synopsis: Transference of Coverings is a biblical teaching and author testimonial. Although written primarily to women, the book also serves as a ministry to men as well. The book's focus is to restore the precious, protective proper male coverings over women by discussing three main biblical male coverings: the father covering, the husband covering and the covering of the widow covering. The book also shares with women how to avoid relationship pitfalls and encourages them to discover their God-esteem and divine destiny. Woman in the Bible Reference: Ruth Biblical Scripture: The Book of Ruth and Ephesians 5:25-30 Characteristic Trait/Attribute and/or Logic: Ruth’s story is one woman’s account of life-altering faith developed out of her undying loyalty to her mother-in-law, Naomi. Naomi, with much patience and Godly instruction, led Ruth to restoration from devastating circumstance to spiritual redemption, abundant blessing, divine purpose and eternal inheritance. As a result, Ruth was joined in holy covenant with her kinsman- redeemer, Boaz. Book Title: Knowing The Struggle Is Over! Author: K.M. Johnson (www.kmjohnson3stepstoknowing.com) Synopsis: Knowing The Struggle Is Over! gives the reader a 3-step process for getting through any struggle or situation they may be going through in their lives. The book takes the reader on a journey to discovering their pathway, which results in building and relying on their faith! With exercises at the end of each chapter, this book may also function as a "faith" workbook for the individual, small group or Bible study. Woman in the Bible Reference: Hannah Biblical Scripture: I Samuel 1 & 2 Characteristic Trait/Attribute and/or Logic: Hannah was barren, just like we each may face a time in our lives where we find ourselves barren. Barrenness can be when we are waiting for the seeds we have planted to come into fruition or just waiting to "give birth" in our lives - both spiritually and naturally. Hannah did not become discouraged though she had a right to. Instead, she continued to pray in faith, which inevitably paved the way for God to work! Hannah exchanged self-pity for hope. As we continue to push forward through our struggles, we become confident in God's timing to bring fulfillment to our lives - thus restoring and rebuilding our faith. 4. 4. 2010 Trustworthy and True: Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) 2010 Harlem Book Fair Author List Book Title: The Invocation Author: Sandra Thompson Williams (http://mssandrawilliams.blogspot.com) Synopsis: A pastor and his wife are persecuted for their Christian beliefs. When selected to give the Invocation at the Mayor's prayer breakfast, they are asked not to pray in the name of Jesus. All the while, a conspiracy is brewing, revealed and resolved in a unique way. Woman in the Bible Reference: Abigail Biblical Scripture: 1 Samuel 25 Characteristic Trait/Attribute and/or Logic: Abigail is able to look beyond the circumstances and see a brighter future and a better way to handle problems because she is concerned about her people and not just herself. Book Title: Stress: Climbing Out of Its Pits with God Author: Dr. Steven Haymon (www.greaterinsight.net) Synopsis: The book illuminates what stress is and how it affects its prey. It also intimates how a oneness relationship with God empowers individuals in overcoming the grasp of stress. It elucidates how distractions - such as sex, drugs, alcohol, pornography, religion, gambling, blaming, and un-forgiveness - sometimes used to mitigate stress actually exacerbates it. Woman in the Bible Reference: Lydia Biblical Scripture: Proverbs, Act 16:14 Characteristic, Trait/Attribute and/or Logic: Lydia is my book’s tie to wisdom. If we study the concept of wisdom in the Book of Proverbs, those who will receive it have to desire it for God to illuminate the mind to acquire it. Act 16:14 states, "...The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message.” My book is full of God's wisdom, but it will not be received unless there is a desire. Once there is a heart’s (mind) desire to receive the wisdom, He (God) will elucidate the mind to receiving how to overcome the power of stress. Page 5 www.christianauthorsontour.com
  5. 5. 2010 Trustworthy and True: Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) 2010 Harlem Book Fair Author List Book Title: Content…Right Where I Am Author: Joy Turner (www.joyturner.net) Synopsis: Content…Right Where I Am is a ministry tool that allows readers to root out the source(s) of discontentment in order to live fulfilling everyday lives. The book includes exercises, scripture references and the author’s personal testimonies - all enlighten readers - proving that it is possible in Christ for one to say, “I am Content...Right Where I Am." Woman in the Bible Reference: Widow with the Jars of Oil Biblical Scripture: II Kings 4 Characteristic Trait/Attribute and/or Logic: The widow (un-named) in II Kings who was visited by the prophet Elisha probably best represents my book, "Content... Right Where I Am." She was a widow who was down to her very last, but she was able to see Jehovah Jireh manifest His glory right in the midst of her struggle. This woman had a financial need that hindered her contentment plus the fact that she was a widow probably made it very difficult for her to be content. However, through her obedience as well as the obedience of God's servant (Elisha), God's faithfulness made a way out of what appeared to be no way. By opening her eyes and showing her the resources that she had right in her house (Elisha even asking "What do you have in your house?"), provisions were made that exceeded here expectation. Content…Right Where I Am also touches on tapping into the resources, gifts, talents and abilities that are already within us to find fulfillment in our daily lives. Title: Psalms of the Daughter Author: Lynn Pinder (www.psalmsofthedaughter.com) Synopsis: Psalms of the Daughter - a collection of poems and short stories - tugs at readers' heart strings while offering poetic insight into the difficult life struggles faced by Christians and non-Christians, alike. The book includes a set of discussion questions - appropriate for book clubs and/or Bible study groups – that challenges readers to use the Bible as a compass to think critically about everyday life issues. Woman in the Bible Reference: Rahab Scripture Reference: Joshua Chapters 2 & 6, Hebrews 11:31 Characteristic trait/attribute and/or logic: Rahab, a harlot, was looked at with disdain by many in her time. Yet, she made a conscious decision to act in faith on what she had heard about God and that one decision changed her life forever. No matter your stand in life and irrespective of where you are or who you are, a simple step of faith in Jesus can turn your destiny around. The poems and short stories in Psalms of the Daughter offer readers a gritty look into the lives of men and women whose destinies were changed by their different faith experiences. 6. 6. 2010 Trustworthy and True: Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) 2010 Harlem Book Fair Author List Title: A Restored Vessel: A Guide to Overcoming Trauma Author: Nicole C. Barber (http://www.barbergrace.com) Synopsis: A Restored Vessel: A Guide to Overcoming Trauma reveals the underlying issues of sexual abuse and domestic violence through an in-depth and candid perspective. The author invites the reader to witness the restoration process of an individual who was immobilized by trauma. This book will equip readers with coping skills while providing them with a personal testament on how to cope with trauma related events. Woman in the Bible Reference: Dinah Scripture Reference: Genesis 34 Characteristic trait/attribute and/or logic: Dinah was an innocent victim who portrayed faith and trust. She did not take matters into her own hands or turn the pain in on herself. Instead, she kept the faith and watched God move on her behalf. Title: Help, Lord I’m Afraid Author: Laura Gilchrist Irby (www.HelpLord-inspireme2bfree.com) Synopsis: Help Lord, I'm Afraid takes the reader on a voyage from Genesis to Malachi discussing women and men of old who overcame fear by the power of God. Each chapter includes a scripture at the top of the page, a devotional sharing a personal life experience from the author's own life and an explanation relating the experiences to biblical men and women of God. Questions at the end of each chapter challenge readers to take creative quiet time to think reflectively on the ideas shared. Woman in the Bible Reference: Hagar Scripture Reference: Genesis 21: 14-19 Characteristic trait/attribute and/or logic: Much like Hagar, I've traveled to the desert of fear-twice. Hagar was in the desert twice and had been told already that she did not need to be afraid. She was that Ishmael would also have many descendents. Yet in Genesis 21, we read she became afraid when the wine in the skin was gone. Yet, God had already provided the well of water and had already told Hagar the promise. And God does not lie! I've been like Hagar – afraid and forgetting the promises of God. I praise Him for changing me and my faith just like He did with Hagar! Page 7 www.christianauthorsontour.com
  7. 7. 2010 Trustworthy and True: Christian Authors on Tour (CAOT) 2010 Harlem Book Fair Author List Title: In Jesus Name Please Don’t Touch Me There Author: Mitzi L. Carrasquillo (www.lovedhealedandrestored.com) Synopsis: In In Jesus Name, Please Don't Touch Me There is an inspirational and motivational book on how Mitzi overcame sexual abuse, rape and depression. The book reveals Mitzi's journey and demonstrates how the Word of God not only saved her life, but how it loved, healed and restored her! Woman in the Bible Reference: Esther Scripture Reference: Esther 4:14 Characteristic trait/attribute and/or logic: Esther is faced with difficult choices but never loses her trust in the Lord God of Israel. She is put into a position where she can save her own people from the evil plans of Haman, the minister to King Xerxes, who hates the Jews. The lessons that we can learn from Esther are faithfulness, trust in God, and a willingness to follow His will whether we are afraid or not. Esther’s act on behalf of the Jews is a picture of sacrifice and how God made good come out of a evil situation. Esther was called for such a times as this to do God's timely work. For many years I suffered from depression and contemplated suicide which resulted from the effects of Sexual Abuse and Rape. What the enemy meant to destroy me, God is now using for His glory! Hallelujah! The love of God not only healed and restored me; but provided the faith, unshaken trustfulness and unselfishness in Him to carry out his will.
