Adaptive First Reconciliation Kit for Individuals with Autism and Other Special Needs

  1. 1. Loyola Press has developed Adaptive Learning Kits that use tested, proven strategies to prepare individuals with autism and other learning challenges to fully participate in the Catholic faith.
  2. 2. The Adaptive Reconciliation Kit contains ten pieces: • Reconciliation Flip Book and I’m Sorry Picture Cards • I Am Forgiven Sequence Puzzle • Jesus Forgives Instructional Story Card • Jesus Wants Us to Make Good Choices Matching Puzzle • Good Choice/Bad Choice Cards • Examination of Conscience Instructional Card • I Celebrate Reconciliation Picture Book • Act of Contrition Instructional Card • Helper Guide • Backpack
  3. 3. Reconciliation Flip Book and I’m Sorry Cards Introduces the steps in the process of celebrating the sacrament and helps individuals communicate contrition.
  4. 4. I Am Forgiven Sequence Puzzle Helps individuals realize the impact of their actions and learn the “sequence” of forgiveness.
  5. 5. Jesus Forgives Instructional Story Teaches that God loves us, forgives us, and restores us.
  6. 6. Jesus Wants Us to Make Good Choices Matching Puzzle Helps the individual associate Jesus with good choices.
  7. 7. Good Choice/Bad Choice Cards Helps individuals recognize good and bad choices.
  8. 8. Examination of Conscience Instructional Card Helps individuals evaluate how they may have hurt God or other people with their thoughts, words, or actions.
  9. 9. I Celebrate Reconciliation Picture Book Invites individuals to celebrate the sacrament with confidence, comfort, and joy.
  10. 10. Act of Contrition Instructional Card This adapted version of the traditional long form allows individuals with special needs to acknowledge sins, ask God for forgiveness, and express desire to repent.
  11. 11. Helper Guide Explains how to use each component in the kit to meet the USCCB requirement of having a sense of contrition to fully experience and celebrate the sacrament.
  12. 12. Backpack Used to transport all the components to and from church, home, or faith formation classes.
  13. 13. Our hope is that these kits will enable many people to participate fully in their faith, people who otherwise might not be able to receive the Sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation.
