  2. 2. Facts • There are over 50,000 known species of Mollusks, • It’s body has three parts : A muscular foot for locomotion, mantle that produces the shell, and the visceral mass that contains the internal organs
  3. 3. Three Main Classes • Gastropods • Bivalves • Cephalopods
  4. 4. Gastropods • Commonly known as snails and slugs • Most highly diversified class in the phylum, with 60,000 to 80,000 living snail and slug species • Also called univalves
  5. 5. Bivalves • 15,000 species • Consist of two shells attached to each other • Used their, mantle cavity to feed by trapping suspended particles in water and for gas exchange
  6. 6. Cephalopods • • • • Meaning “Head-Feet” Most active mollusks Moves very fast using their arms and tentacles Examples of these are cuttlefish, squid, and chamber nautilus
