  2. 2. What is CyberKnife?CyberKnife®  treats  pa0ents  with  a  procedure  called  stereotac(c  radiosurgery.  Stereotac0c  radiosurgery  is  a  noninvasive  method  of  trea0ng  tumors  with  high-‐dose  radia0on  precisely  aimed  from  different  angles.    How  does  CyberKnife  work?  CyberKnife  does  not  require  surgery  and  there  is  no  cu7ng  or  anesthesia  required.  CyberKnife  is  comprised  of  a  compact  linear  accelerator  —  a  machine  that  generates  a  radia0on  beam  —  aCached  to  a  highly  maneuverable  robo0c  arm.      •  During  treatment,  the  machine’s  robo0c  arm  moves  around   you,  aiming  and  firing  targeted  radia0on  beams  from   numerous  angles.  •  The  imaging  and  tracking  system  con0nually  updates  the   tumor  loca0on  throughout  the  treatment  procedure,   compensa0ng  for  pa0ent  movements  like  breathing.    •  Treatment  sessions  typically  last  30  -‐  90  minutes.   529 S.
