  2. 2. <ul><li>Start controlling & stop complaining about your relationships. </li></ul><ul><li>People take into consideration, test you, see how you react and then decide how to treat you . You get to influence their decisions. You can be in control. </li></ul><ul><li>You must own how people treat you. </li></ul>AKA: Don’t make yourself the mouse or the cat will eat you.
  3. 3. Do you… <ul><li>Feel your parents don’t listen to a word you say? </li></ul><ul><li>Ever want to remind your parents that your 3 rd birthday was forever ago & stop treating you like a toddler? </li></ul><ul><li>Always have your parents lecturing you? </li></ul>
  4. 4. As a result do you… <ul><li>Feel totally ignored? </li></ul><ul><li>Feel angry and frustrated? </li></ul><ul><li>Feel hurt? </li></ul><ul><li>You taught them how to treat you. Remember: if you act like a 5 year old, you’ll get treated like a 5 year old. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Disclaimer!!! <ul><li>Everyone is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect . If you are being emotionally, physically, or mentally abused it’s NOT your fault! Get help. You did not put yourself in that situation. Tell someone. </li></ul><ul><li>EX: Your parents decide something you don’t agree with. How do you react? If you blow up, stomp off to your room & slam the door, then you are reinforcing their perception of your being childish. </li></ul>

PARENTS <ul><li>WARNING your parents will think you’re: </li></ul><ul><li>… an alien </li></ul><ul><li>… on drugs </li></ul><ul><li>… sucking up </li></ul><ul><li>… growing up!! </li></ul><ul><li>Tips to get them to DO WHAT YOU WANT! (Don’t tell my kid!) </li></ul><ul><li>TOP SECRET!! </li></ul>

Key actions/reactions to change: <ul><li>Initiate conversations with your parents. </li></ul><ul><li>Remember, they are your parents, they will discipline you sometimes. </li></ul><ul><li>Don’t take the bait, stay calm . </li></ul><ul><li>Become interested in your parents’ lives & they will become interested in yours. </li></ul><ul><li>Be realistic about what you expect your parents’ reactions to be. </li></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>6. Stop demanding & start earning your freedom. </li></ul><ul><li>7. Inspire confidence & trust through predictability . </li></ul><ul><li>8. Allow yourself to be influenced by your parents’ advice. </li></ul><ul><li>9. Be easy to get along with . </li></ul><ul><li>10. Do not talk to your parents only when you have problems because if all you talk about are problems , that is a problem . </li></ul>

All relationships can be renegotiated . Start new today.
