Evaluation for media

  1. 1. Who would bethe audience for your media product?
  2. 2. Suitable only for 15 years and over No one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video work. Discrimination The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory language or behaviour. Drugs Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse. The misuse of easily accessible and highly dangerous substances (for example, aerosols or solvents) is unlikely to be acceptable.HorrorStrong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised.Imitable behaviourDangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should notdwell on detail which could be copied. Easily accessible weapons should not beglamorised.
  3. 3. LanguageThere may be frequent use of strong language (for example, ‘fuck’).The strongest terms (for example, ‘cunt’) may be acceptable if justified by the context.Aggressive or repeated use of the strongest language is unlikely to be acceptable.NudityNudity may be allowed in a sexual context but without strong detail. There are noconstraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context.SexSexual activity may be portrayed without strong detail. There may be strong verbalreferences to sexual behaviour, but the strongest references are unlikely to beacceptable unless justified by context. Works whose primary purpose is sexual arousalor stimulation are unlikely to be acceptable.ThemeNo theme is prohibited, provided the treatment is appropriate for 15 year olds.ViolenceViolence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. Thestrongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualisedviolence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references tosexual violence but any portrayal of sexual violence must be discreet and have a strongcontextual justification.
  4. 4. We feel a classification of ‘15’ is appropriate because our film does portray the idea ofthreat and menace in the still shots we have used, there are also cuts of the murderer, who appears to be stalking the victim, which could be quite disturbing for someoneunder the ages of 15. Although some violence is portrayed, it would not be deemed asstrong, hence the age rating of 15 instead of 18. From our experiences and from research into the horror/drama genre, wefound that people of the age of 15 enjoy horror/drama/thriller films which we foundout through our questionnaire results. As two teenagers ourselves, we both enjoyhorror/drama films so in our film we have developed the forms and conventions inorder to make it enjoyable for both ourselves and our target audience.
