2. Pearl & Dean
Looking at the statistics from Pearl & Dean, they show People 15 and older (which is who our film is
us that in an art hous, it is dominated by the older aimed at) are mostly female who are young
audience from 35+. Our movie is more likely to be from 15-24 and are classed ABC1. This shows
shown in an art house so the majority of the audience that generally we our looking at a class with
might be older than expected.Futyhermore there is a A,B and C1 as our main population when
similar range between female to male who are mostly watching our film.
high class.
3. Age Group
Our thriller is a hybrid, with a combination of crime, mystery thriller and action.
Although as the opening needed to be a thriller, we decided to focus mainly on
making the thriller opening crime and mystery.
The opening is suitable for a mass audience, however it definitely might scare little
kids due to the scary music and low key lighting. Which may lead them to get upset
or disturbed.
So because of that we suggested giving our film a certificate a 15 because the British
Board of Film Classification (BBFC) states that No one under the age of 15 is allowed
to see a 15 film at the cinema or buy/rent a ‘15’ rated DVD.
http://www.bbfc.co.uk/what-classification/15 on this website, it shows us why
movies are a 15 and stronger than a 12 A.
Our movie would qualify for a 15 because it would contain strong violence when the
antagonist is attacking his victims and eventually when the audience meets the
protagonist; that is when the violence would be at it’s greatest.
There would be strong language/profanity mainly from the victims, as they would
be inclined to say ‘f***’ or ‘s***’ most of the time as they run away from the
antagonist or when they are scared.
I doubt that in our thriller, there will be any contents of sexual nudity or portrayals
of sexual activity but characters in our thriller may kiss iwhichis fine.
In no account will there be drug taking or discriminatory language.
This thriller could have been a 12A, but due to the frequent use of strong
language/profanity and strong violence, it goes under the 15 certificate.
Our film is mainly aimed at a more broader age range of viewers. Mainly 16-35.
However the 16-25 audience may be more common for this film as the antagonist is
a youngteenager and targets lots of adults, which means that these ages can relate
to the characters in the film. As well as that the ages 60+ don’t tend to go to the
cinema and so this age range is ideal for our film.
4. Gender
Our movie is aimed more at the female viewers, than the male
viewers as I think more female viewers would be more interested.
This is because our genre isn’t normally what the male viewers
want to see as statistically they like more of the gore/action genres.
However our thriller, does contain some sorts of action in it and so
it might be a possibility that the male audience might watch it as
most male viewers are into movies like Bourne and Taken.
As the cinema is dominated by female viewers it is right to make a
female film as it is more likely to give a bigger profit margin than
doing a film aimed more at the male viewers. Another point shows
that thrillers are more male based and by making the film female
based, it help the thriller audience to expand more into the mass
target audience.
5. Class Group
As the antagonist is a lower class person and
targets any class higher than their class, the
film will relate to most classes and encourage
everyone to come. However stereotypically
young antagonist’s do tend to come from a
lower class background which may anger some
viewers as there lower class is portrayed as a
bad person.

7. 16-18
Looking at the 16-18 audience profile, it shows
that a lot of teenagers that age, love fan girling
over franchises like The Hunger games,
Twilight and Harry Potter. This is mainly due to
the actors in the movies. Taylor Launter is a
great example of this and has developed a sex
symbol reputation as the werewolf. Another
aspect identified from this audience profile,
isthe way they communicate with phones and
social networking sites. In our thriller, we use a
phone but an old fashioned one and so it may
not appeal to this them. However as the
antagonist is a young person. This audience
may be intrigued to see how they are
represented in comparison to them.

9. 19-25
I did my 19-25 audience as if they were
students in university and so Looking at the
this audience profile I can see that they
hobbies are shopping just like the 16-18. They
tend to watch a lot of reality shows which
highlights the reality of life. ( even though
most reality shows are set up) . However as
they are students and are mostly busy with
classes. They might see the this movie as treat
and a break from their busy lives.

11. 26-35
The older viewers(26-35) may like our movie
because of the enigma, they may want to work
it out and solve who the antagonist is. I think
that this audience would love our film as the
victims are mostly adults and so they can
relate to them. On my audience profile, shows
that most of them will be starting families and
so may not have time for the cinema. However
when they do have time they will hopefully
watch ours because most of there hobbies is
reading and working and watching Tv. So they
should be able to watch our thriller.
12. Overall
The profiles I have created are more towards
the general mass target audience. Everyone
has their own interests and so we cannot
pleasethem, that is why targeting masses of
people instead of a niche target audience
would be appropriate because we have
generalised the target audience and by using
this technique, should make the them
interested in our thriller.
However the male audience may come to see
this film as they mostly see thrillers more than
females and so our thriller may gain male
attention. Also the antagonist targets different
people from the different backgrounds so in
some way everyone would be able to relate.
