  2. 2. What is a Cigarette? <ul><li>You nay think that cigarettes are just tobacco and the case around it. But you would be wrong! There is a lot more weird and disgusting things in a cigarette than you think! </li></ul><ul><li>Tar </li></ul><ul><li>Arsenic- used in wood preserver. </li></ul><ul><li>Acetone- used in nail polish remover </li></ul><ul><li>Ammonia- Used in cleaning products </li></ul><ul><li>Cadmium- Highly poisonous metal used in batteries. </li></ul><ul><li>Carbon Monoxide </li></ul>

More…. <ul><li>Formaldehyde – Used to preserve dead bodies </li></ul><ul><li>That is just some of the things that are in a cigarette there is also more metal, poisons and things they use in rat poison. In total there is over 4,000 ingredients in cigarettes, 50 of which are known to cause cancer. </li></ul><ul><li>The drug that makes you addicted is called nicotine. </li></ul>

THE PROBLEMS CAUSED BY SMOKING!! <ul><li>The problems caused by cancer can be caused inside and out! </li></ul><ul><li>Inside </li></ul><ul><li>You can get heart cancer, lung cancer, mouth cancer, heart attacks, makes people angry and short tempered. You cause your teeth to go yellow and rotten. You get more colds and illnesses. </li></ul>

On the outside…. <ul><li>You smell, your clothes smell, your hair smells, your hair becomes weaker and dosen’t look nice, your fingernails turn yellow, you might find it harder to find a boyfriend or girlfriend, your family or the people you are with will be inhaling the smoke and it turns into passive smoking. </li></ul>

Fact and figures…. <ul><li>In the world right now there is about 1.3 billion people smoking cigarettes. </li></ul><ul><li>In 2007 10million people smoked in the uk. </li></ul><ul><li>It is costing the nhs around £1.4 billion to £1.7 billion each year. </li></ul><ul><li>This can cost you as people wont want employ people that smoke as you will be of more than other employees. </li></ul><ul><li>If you smoked 7 packs a week each costing £4.50 at the end of one year it will cost £1638. </li></ul>

What you could save.. <ul><li>If you smoked 20 ciggarets you could save well over £1000 a year </li></ul><ul><li>You wont have as many colds. </li></ul><ul><li>You could help prevent your children smoking. </li></ul><ul><li>You can taste food and drink better. </li></ul><ul><li>The smoke smell will go away from you. </li></ul>

Bronchial tubes begin to relax and energy levels increase </li></ul><ul><li>1 month- Skin appearance improves owing to improved skin perfusion </li></ul><ul><li>3–9 months - Cough, wheezing, and breathing problems improve and lung function increases by up to 10% </li></ul><ul><li>1 year risk of a heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker </li></ul><ul><li>10 years- risk of lung cancer falls to about half that of a smoker </li></ul><ul><li>15 years- risk of heart attack falls to the same level as someone who has never smoked </li></ul>
