  2. 2. The senses• We need our senses to understand oursorroundings.• We have five senses:• Sight• Hearing• Smell• Taste• Touch
  3. 3. 1.Touch• Our body is completely covered by skin.• Through our skinwe can feel cold,heat or pain.
  4. 4. 2. Sight• We use our eyes to see.• Some parts of the eyes are for vision: eyeball,pupil, iris, lens, retina.• Pupil is in thecenter of theeye.• Iris can bebrown, green orblue.eyeball
  5. 5. Sight• Other parts protect our eyes: eyelids,eyelashes, eyebrows.eyelashes
  6. 6. Sight• We can see colours, shapes, sizes,positions and distances.• We need light to see.• It is not good for oureyes if we read or writewith not enough light.
  7. 7. 3. Hearing• We can hear different sounds and tellwhere the sounds come from.• We have two parts:– Outer parts: the ears.– Inner parts areinside our head.
  8. 8. Hearing• Sound vibrates and go into our ears alongthe ear canal.• Vibrations reach the ear drum.• The movement of the ear drum reachesthe small bones and the cochlea.• The cochlea collects the information andsends it to the brain.

  10. 10. 4. Taste• We can taste food and drink with ourtongue.• We can distinguish flavours with the tastebuds that are on the surface of ourtongue.• We can distinguishfour flavours: sweet,salty, sour, and bitter.
  11. 11. 5. Smell• When we breath, air goes in through thenose.• We also use our nose to distinguishdifferent smell.• Animals can smell• better than people.
