Completing an Estimating Sheet-‐‑
Net Size-‐‑refers to the actual or finished size.
Standard thickness of ¾”for solid and plywood with only a few exceptions.
Drawer fronts, backs and sides are ½” thick. Drawer facing is 7/16” thick.
Material-‐‑
Solid lumber is oak or low-‐‑grade lumber.
Plywood is oak except for the drawer sides…they are ½” Baltic Birch.
Stock Size-‐‑refers to the rough size.
Procedure for calculating Stock Size. See page 30.
Solid Lumber:
Thickness and Width… round up to the next inch...
I.e. ¾=1, 2 ¼=3…
Length… round up to the next inch and then add 1”...
I.e. 21 ¼=23, 24=25…
Plywood:
Thickness… no change. ¾ stays ¾.
Width and Length…round up to the next multiple of 6. …
Footage-‐‑
Calculating Footage-‐‑use BD. FT. (BFM) and SQ. FT. formulas.
Loss Factor-‐‑compensates for knots, waste, etc.
Solid Lumber:
Multiply the Footage by 0.3.
Plywood:
Zero… do nothing...
Total Footage-‐‑Footage plus Loss Factor
