Visualization is a key lean technique and a necessity, when you, as a part of a complex system are tackling a fast moving environment. But why is it such a necessity? Let’s walk through some of the limitation imposed on us by our brain, and how visualization helps us cope.

  • Given we have complex world, what does our brain cope with?
  • "we do not have sufficient memory for the effortless combination of detailed information from successivemoments in time. This is not to say that we have no visual memory. If we attend to something,we certainly can see it change. And if we close our eyes we can remember several things aboutthe world in front of us, such as the location of a few of the objects present, their approximateshape and size, and perhaps their color. But the amount of visual detail contained in theserepresentations is rather limited. Thus, although we have representations that contain largeamounts of detailed information, and representations that provide coherence over time and space,we do not have representations that do both."
