Brief Introduction<br />The Cold War was a period of tension and hostility between the United States of America and the Soviet Union from the mid-40s to the late 80s. <br />It was called the Cold War because there was no active war between the two nations, due to the fear of nuclear escalation.<br />The Cold War was expressed through propaganda, weapons development, industrial advances as well as technological development, such as the development of Nuclear powers.<br />

  10. 10. The military blocs NATO and The Warsaw Pact were formed
  11. 11. It led to destructive conflicts like the Vietnam War and the Korean War.</li></ul>- The Soviet Union collapsed due to economic weaknesses.<br />

Effects of the Cold war (con’t)<br />The Berlin Wall was demolished and the two German nations were unified.<br />- The Warsaw Pact disintegrated.<br />- The Baltic States and some former Soviet republics achieved independence.<br />- America became the sole superpower of the world.<br />- Communism collapsed worldwide<br />

Literary Works <br />- New kinds of literature were produced after the war that provided its readers with different perspectives and feelings about the war. <br />- They show the struggle during their lives, and how they cope or feel about certain situations. <br />- Finally, they bring out the ugly truth about war; that it brings much suffering and injustice to humankind. <br />.<br />

Literary Works <br />A Woman Unconscious<br />Ted Hughes<br />A poem, that tells us about how the war effected each person, in one way or the other, emotionally or physically.<br />Edward Brunner, <br />Cold War Poetry;<br />Poetry that tells us about the life as a solider during the cold war, and the immense difficulties faced.<br />
