  2. 2. Creative Writing <ul><li>Students in Creative Writing experiment each day with diverse genres, different writing styles. We begin each day with a journal writing “warm up” and dive into a different writing exercise. Students then select their favorites to put in their quarterly portfolios. Your assignments are up to you--give it a try! </li></ul>
  3. 3. Did you know that some of your favorite films probably started out as great works of fiction? Have you ever seen Shawshank Redemption ? Slumdog Millionaire ? One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest ?   4. 4. Don’t fear Shakespeare! In this course, we’ll read about a hunchbacked king who’ll kill anyone who gets in his way -- even children! We’ll laugh as we watch two people argue and bicker and deny they’re in love, all the way to the altar. And we’ll read one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies about a man so in love with his wife and so jealous that she’ll leave him that he does the unthinkable.   5. 5. GO TO GUIDANCE AND GET INTO NEXT YEAR’S POETRY CLASS! We will read and write and slam and listen and view…poetry. This ten week course is pass/fail (so is POETRY II !)
  6. 6. SAT Prep Did you plan to go to college? Then you need to take this course! <ul><li>If you’ve already taken the PSATs, you know what you’re up against: difficult vocabulary, grammar questions, etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Beat the test with vocabulary preparation, test practice and a variety strategies. </li></ul><ul><li>Get materials that you can still use after the course ends. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Science Fiction and Fantasy Explore imaginative literature through short stories and film. Projects are creative as well as analytical.
  8. 9. The Art of Film This one semester class explores the art of film. We watch, we read, we analyze, we write!
  9. 10. Literature Workshop In this 10 week pass/fail course, we explore different genres: drama, poetry, novel, short story, and visuals!
  10. 11. Understanding Media We focus on the influence media have on society specifically how gender, race and violence are represented in television, film, books, radio, newspapers, magazines, advertisements and the internet.
  11. 12. Come explore what it means to write for an audience. This one semester elective course is a broad overview of print and online media.
  12. 13. Journalism II <ul><li>This class builds upon the skills developed in Journalism I and involves active participation in the high school newspaper. This is the only class you can take where your work will always be published! </li></ul>
  13. 14. Greek Mythology <ul><li>Explore ancient myths through a philosophical lens to understand how much they truly influence us today. </li></ul><ul><li>___ How the world was created </li></ul><ul><li>___ Meaning of life </li></ul><ul><li>___ Love, lust and war </li></ul><ul><li>___ Heroes </li></ul>
