PAXCON What do millions of pick-up trucks and the Pentagon have in common?  Both are benefiting from the serious protection provided by LINE-X Corporation. LINE-X Corporation, well known amongst millions of truck owners for its durable spray-on truck bedliners, is steadily gaining recognition for its revolutionary PAXCON brand of blast-resistant coatings, currently being used at the Pentagon as part of a multi- year reconstruction project following the terrorists attacks of 9/11.
  9. 9. PAXCON PAXCON offers a revolutionary development in Blast Mitigation. Known in military and research circles as an Energy Resistant Coating (ERC), the PAXCON coating is flexible yet stronger than steel. This means that walls outfitted with the unique PAXCON coating can withstand explosions up to 20 times greater than a normal, uncoated wall. One of the greatest threats from an energetic event comes from fragmentation. Ensuring an exterior wall of a building can survive a blast without breaking into fragments can be a first step in safety.

HOW IT PROTECTS To demonstrate this, explosive experts and researchers at New Mexico Institute’s Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) conducted a series of explosions to confirm the protective capabilities of PAXCON. Two identical structures were built, one left uncoated and one coated with PAXCON. Then a bomb the equivalent of 205 lbs. of TNT was detonated 30 feet from the structure.

MILITARY APPLICATION In 2001, the Air Force Research Lab released technical specs for using a LINE-X proprietary product for blast mitigation. The LINE-X product outperformed 27 competitors in a battery of simulated tests by federal agencies and the U.S. Department of Defense. In 2002, LINE-X was selected to provide its PAXCON coating to the Pentagon following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

  21. 21. U.S. AIR FORCETEST REPORT LINE-X PAXCON was featured in the Air Force Research Lab booth at the Force Protection Equipment Demo show in 2001. Air Force reps informed LINE-X that LINE-X PAXCON was the only coating to pass all of their bomb blast tests. The Air Force Research lab found that it took at least 1,000 lbs. equivalent of TNT to “make PAXCON fail and even then it only tore the coating…fragmentation was still averted. PAXCON could save lives if applied to buildings subjected to bomb force.”
