BAIT1103 Internet Security FACULTY OF APPLIED SCIENCES AND COMPUTING BAIT1103 Internet Security Research-based Assignment Learning Outcomes: This coursework aims to provide students an opportunity to explore an understanding of the concept and solution on particular issues in Internet Security. In particular, this assignment is to provide the opportunity for students to accumulate and demonstrate research skills and presentation skills. Question Social media becoming a popular life-style trend in the Internet platform. Unfortunately, the lacks of security awareness among the users is become alarming and majorly concern our security privacy in the open space of the Internet. Users being exploited and cause more harms than what we had known. Following are the topics of us to study, analyze and evaluate on: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Facebook Twitter Google+ LinkedIn FourSquare, Instagram or any other mobile social media apps. Section 1: Report Format (A group of 3-4 students) The report should contain the following main sections:1. Introduction to the Social Media • Explain the purpose of the Social media that you choose. 2. Security flaws and attacks in the Social Media • • • Identify the potential flaws / assumption flaws in the selected social media. How Social Engineering, Phishing, Pharming, SMiShing, Viruses, Trojans, Worms, DDOS, Botnets and others attack in Social Media. (These attacks are serve as examples only, you may expand your research for more different type of attacks.) Example of attacks that been reported in 2009 – 2013 (Locally or internationally). Create a time-line attack chart. 3. Security Countermeasures • Explain the solutions to overcome the potential attacks. 4. References - Your research must be supported by at least FIVE reliable resources, which could be from books, newspapers, magazines, journals, white papers, etc. All referencing and citing must follow Harvard Referencing System 5. Page - 10 – 20 pages of report which included diagrams or charts. All material must be 1.5 line-spaced, justified, Times New Roman font with font-size 12. 1

Plagiarism and Cheating policy • • Please ensure that you do not breach the university college plagiarism and cheating policy. Any report which is found plagiaries or any cheating encountered, will be considered failed. Late Policy The assignment should be submitted by the given due date, unless there is some legitimate reason as to why it is impossible for you to complete the assignment. As the general rule, no extension of time will be granted .Assignment received after the due date without valid reason will be penalized. Submission report date : Week 11 (14th March 2014) Presentation date : Week 12-13, during practical classes. Late submission will be penalized by deducting 10% for each day. Submission mode 1. One printed copy of report. Assessment This assignment is worth of 100% which will be converted to 40% for the coursework marks allocation.
