The Power of Questioning - Prof. R.Lico

  1. 1. The Power of Questioning
  2. 2. Introduction • For decades we have struggled to get through airports while sweating and becoming exhausted as we carried our heavy luggage.
  3. 3. Introduction • Finally, like the caveman, a person came up with the brilliant idea/innovation of using wheels which has helped save our backs and made our airport experience much easier. • But, I have a question: – Why didn't someone think of this before?
  4. 4. Many Questions About My Luggage • Why do I need to struggle to carry a heavy suitcase? • Why should I carry a heavy suitcase? • Why does this thing work this way? • What can I do to reduce the level of stress carrying a heavy suitcase?
  5. 5. It is just a wheel • Adding wheels to a suitcase did not require high investments or even cutting edge technology. • But this concept did stimulate one of the most important elements of humankind: – Questioning.
  6. 6. Questioning - Important • It’s not as easy as it sounds because to ask suitable questions demands time and effort to find out reasonable answers for specific situations or problems. • Unfortunately we are addicted to living without questioning.
  7. 7. Main Reasons of Not Questioning • Knowledge is power. But, we are not aware of the power of questioning and finding new ways of doing things. • We don't notice the possibilities of changing and improving because we are too busy worrying about other things.
  8. 8. Main Reasons of Not Questioning • We are too tired or stressed to think about something new. • We don't realize that we are wasting our energy and time doing tasks and activities that could be better handled.
  9. 9. Questioning Main Aspects • A way to develop this powerful tool is to increase our perception about the way we look at things which demands that we ask questions.
  10. 10. Questioning Main Aspects • Thus, it is important to learn how to feed our brain with information through asking questions which will allow us to obtain insights and new ideas of how best to do things.
  11. 11. Questioning Conclusion • Questioning is a process that has to be developed. It doesn’t always come naturally to everyone. • The more we develop this ability, the more we will see its benefits, and rewards which will motivate us to exercise our brain and curiosity.
  12. 12. Questioning Conclusion • If we take the time to observe and analyze, we may start to see things we haven't seen before — things that have been right in front of our eyes. • Ultimately, we may see things that change our world.
