  2. 2. What is Voicethread? <ul><li>The word is mashup of ‘ voice ’ and ‘ thread ’. </li></ul><ul><li>voice = expression </li></ul><ul><li>thread = response to that expression </li></ul>trustedadvisor.com/public/image/collaboration
  3. 3. <ul><li>Each new user who creates a presentation becomes a new voice and every user who leaves a comment becomes a new thread in the discussion </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>Voicethread makes collaboration visual </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>The discussion centers around visual media </li></ul><ul><li>Photos </li></ul><ul><li>Videos </li></ul><ul><li>Presentations </li></ul><ul><li>Other documents </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>Many images and/ or combinations of different types of images can be added to create an album </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>Viewer comments are uploaded and posted </li></ul><ul><li>around each image in the album </li></ul>

  11. 11. A word about content <ul><li>It is user generated </li></ul><ul><li>It can be altered/edited by all viewers or by invited viewers only </li></ul><ul><li>Comments can be removed by the person who generated the album </li></ul>

  13. 13. Other features: <ul><li>You can also monitor edits to your presentation via an RSS feed </li></ul><ul><li>You can export the entire presentation to your iPod </li></ul>You can embed a snippet of code in a moodle or other site
  14. 14. <ul><li>Voicethread has a separate platform for educators and this account, with most of the Pro features, is free as an educator in a K-12 school. </li></ul>

  16. 16. Value of use in a classroom? <ul><li>Participation in a Voicethread is purposeful and provides a safe environment for self expression. </li></ul><ul><li>Adds an element of creativity to group discussion. </li></ul>

  18. 18. <ul><li>Students can see how the thinking about a topic develops as contributions are made by participants. </li></ul><ul><li>VoiceThread is flexible and simple enough to include students with a wide range of abilities and comfort levels with social media. </li></ul>
  19. 19. <ul><li>changes the roles of teacher and student </li></ul><ul><li>places students at the center of their own learning </li></ul><ul><li>helps learners, (and often times teachers), to come to a broader understanding of concepts and ideas </li></ul><ul><li>builds on previous knowledge </li></ul>Collaborative learning
  20. 20. <ul><li>There are other more business oriented collaboration tools out there that might be better suited to that specific environment, Zoho and Google docs come to mind. </li></ul>
  21. 21. Voicethread tutorial <ul><li>This presentation is not about how to use Voicethread, but if you are interested, the creators of Voicethread have posted a starter tutorial here and a VoiceThread user has posted another here . </li></ul>
