The meeting covered several topics related to career development and planning in the school division:
1) Updates on provincial graduation rate targets, with the goal of 85% overall graduation rate and at least 65% for First Nations students by 2020. The local division also aims for 90% graduation rate after grade 10 by June 2018.
2) Information about work-based learning opportunities and ensuring students have proper insurance coverage through a memorandum of understanding with the Workers' Compensation Board.
3) Upcoming professional development events for counsellors and career practitioners, and dates for future career development planning team meetings throughout the school year.

12. Learning Together
Critical Updates to Information for Work-based Learning
Opportunities in Practical and Applied Arts
Students engaged in work-based learning assignments are
protected by Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) coverage
as a result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
between the Ministry of Education and WCB provided the
employer is registered with WCB. As detailed in the MOU,
Saskatchewan students registered in schools listed below are
eligible for this coverage:
all schools of a school division;
13. Learning Together
According to the MOU, a work-based learning assignment:
is offered by a school;
provides for students to be engaged with an employer
without pay for a minimum of twenty-five (25) hours in the
performance of work normally undertaken by the
employer; and
is either approved by and/or partially or totally funded by
the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education
but shall not include those components of a course which take
place outside of Saskatchewan. The MOU does not apply to
job shadowing opportunities such as the “Take Our Kids to
Work” program. Students earning Apprenticeship credits
should have WCB coverage as part of their employment, and
therefore, are not impacted by this agreement.
14. Learning Together
Students who participate in a work-based learning assignment
must complete a consent and agreement form similar to the
one attached to be eligible for workers’ compensation
benefits. It is the school/division’s responsibility to ensure that
the form is completed prior to a student beginning a work-
based learning placement and kept on file.
The file, Reporting an Injury, outlines the procedures for
reporting an injury to a student in a work-based learning
assignment. Updated WCB forms E1 and W1 also exist.
