Safer internet day 2011

 1. 2.

Safer Internet Day will be marked in 65 countries worldwide on February 8th to raise awareness among children, teachers, parents and carers of how to use the internet and mobiles in a safe and responsible way.

 2. 3.

. This year's slogan - "Internet is more than a game, it's your life" - aims to make children and teenagers realise that actions in the virtual world can have an impact in their real lives. Children go online more and more and from a wider range of devices especially mobile phones and other smart hand-held devices.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
 3. 4.

They need to be aware that what they do or say online could break through into the offline world even if they take precautions such as using an avatar or a nickname. The Commission is committed to helping parents and their children keep safe online as part of the Digital Agenda for Europe

 4. 5.

Safer Internet Day is one of the flagship projects supported by the European Commission's € 55 million worth Safer Internet Programme .

 5. 6.

. It has been organised by INSAFE every year since 2004, with events in more than 65 countries in Europe and worldwide. INSAFE is the network of Awareness Centres that receives EU funding to promote a safe use of internet and mobile phones among children, parents, schools, and media.

Information from http:// / eucalendar / event / id /178074- safer - internet - day / mode / window

 8. 9.

The Topic

 9. 10.

Nowadays, everybody knows Internet is a powerful and often useful tool. We use it every day, including our children, and we should be aware of the risks it entails.

 10. 11.

Most young people are addicted to the Internet. In many cases they ignore the danger that this tool implies. For example, uploading photos or speaking about their private life in social networks. From our point of view, young people must be cautious and know more about the use of the Internet.

 11. 12.

Nowadays, most teenagers use the Internet to talk with their friends using the Social Networks like Facebook or Twitter. They post images because they think that only their friends can see them . Furthermore, they don not know that everybody can see the things that you post and this lack of privacy could be a problem.

 12. 13.

Nowadays the Internet offers us numerous possibilities but it can be a problem because we can misuse it! We think the Internet is a very good invention but if we use it we must be careful.

 13. 14.

Stalkers are people who access personal data only to scare someone. In so many cases, stalkers publish and share this information with other users to encourage them to stalk that person. They usually get social net accounts, name, age, address, telephone numbers and sometimes bank accounts and private pictures. These things are done to earn money by bribing or blackmailing that person.

 14. 15.

Our Opinion

 15. 16.

First of all, when we are googling, we should turn Google’s SafeSearch on, so as to avoid undesirable content, such as erotic sites. Furthermore, when we are chatting we must make sure we are talking to the person we are willing to speak to. Another problem about the information shown in pages like Wikipedia is that we cannot know if it is true and reliable, unless it has a quality mark.

 16. 17.

From our point of view, teenagers upload photos, give a lot of information about their habits, interests, stories concerning their past life and even plans. Some people may use this information to cause them harm. In addition, there may be people who spread lies about others. In the past, it was not so easy to tell so many people about an event that wasn’t true. Besides, we mustn’t forget the huge amount of spam that we receive. In can be a way to introduce viruses in our computers. There are so many risks when we use the Internet . In fact, some web pages contain information which is wrong and therefore, you must not trust in everything you find.

 17. 18.

For one thing, people who use the Internet do not know about the risks arising from publishing their own photos or personal information, because there are people who may take them and this would be dangerous for you. Moreover, when you try to buy something in online, you are running a risk because someone can phish you and send you a lot of spam that could damage your computer. Furthermore, there are people who meet new friends on the Internet and then, when they get to know each other, they realise they are not who they pretended to be. One might be in danger when meeting someone on the Internet because you don’t really know who he or she is or what that person’s intentions are.

 18. 19.

Some of the problems we the Internet may entail are caused by other people, such as viruses or trojan horses. Viruses are programs that can replicate the structures or effects by infecting other files or structures on a computer, and trojan horses are a general term for malicious software that prentends to be harmless so that a user willingly allows it download it onto the computer.

However, other problems could be caused by ourselves, like in social networks. Facebook, Twitter or in our case Tuenti, are the most famous ones. We can post anything about us such as photos or personal information in these places but we do not know where they might end up.

 19. 20.

In our opinion, the Internet has advantages and disadvantages. It is a good tool to work or communicate with people who is far away, but it’s a place where there is no privacy, so people who know all the internet secrets trick noobs. It can be avoided if you follow some basic rules, like not trusting someone who asks you for any private information, or by not entering inappropriate webs that can introduce a virus in your PC.

 20. 21.

To conclude

 21. 22.

Summing up, we should use the Internet whenever we need to, but always with caution, watching out.

 22. 23.

As a conclusion, there seems to be no doubt that the Internet is a wonderful invention in our society. However, if we don’t know how to use it, it can be certainly dangerous.

 23. 24.

To sum up, there are many threats to Internet security , and we are running a a risk. Consequently, we should learn to surf the web to avoid those problems.

 24. 25.

To sum up, when we are on the Internet, we should be aware of our responsibilities and acts.

 25. 26.

To sum up, be careful and pay attention to everything you may upload because everybody will be able to see it.
