Objectives of the Project Lesley Kaiser [#mobcop12 and gdcop]: [with bindery technicians Louise James and Iranna Ashton]Update on Elective Project (Limited edition bookbinding fordesigners) weeks I & 2 (July 27 and Aug 2, 2012)Photos taken with ipads. First experiments in class.Combine old and new technologies in the book binderyLong term objective is to integrate new technology such asIpads/iphones, in delivering content for BDes Graphics papers,and in research.
Ipad connected to screen in bindery is used to introduce thebrief and demo of direct links to relevant contexts / archives etc.
Outputs for this elective:•A sample set of limited edition binding styles in a fold-downbox – students select from demonstrated binding options andcreate their own sample set of bindings•A prototype for a printed limited edition with original creativecontent (to be developed in consultation with the tutor but it isessentially a self-directed project).•The context for your project is the Artists’ Books tradition,starting with the Russian Avant-Garde, Fluxus, etc.•An epub (optional). Individual student publication proposals are talked through inone-to-one tutorials. Visual examples of suggested genres canbe put up on the screen for discussion and contextualisation.
