Do you often argue with your mother or father? What about? What time do you have to be home? What happens if you don’t come home on time? How many people are in your (immediate) family? How often do you see your cousins? How often does your entire family together? When you get married, will you have any children?
  9. 9. Making Inferences An inference is a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning. Making inferences means that you use what you know about a situation to understand the text. Your mother looks at your grades and makes a disgusted face. You can infer that she does not like your score. Your roommate comes home from her date, runs to her bedroom and slams the door. You can infer that she and her date had a fight. Karen bought six lottery tickets the previous day and quit work the next day. You can infer that she won a lot of money.
